men were less feminized than they are today, In those days having a tiny waist and abs was not ideal for a man, that was more for a women. Today's men are more insecure about looking youthful rather than looking like men. THey are castrated.

regarding bodybuilders that is so far from the truth.  all the top amateur and professional bodybuilders had wide shoulders and narrow waists.   today's competition bodybuilders all are blocky masses.

That's one hell of a difference between the greats of yester-year (Reeves, Eifferman, Grimick, Hilligen, and many others who appear lacking in the ab department when compared against the "kids" of today when they put their mind to it).

So what is the Secret?

Method, GH?? I doubt it but it would be interesting to hear from GH15, TBomz, and a few other GetBiggers on that subject.

Actually their ain't no Secrets in bodybuilding unless you know almost nothing about body building.

If there is a secret here, it is that each of these great ab guys had something in common.

And that 'something in common" was that each of them weighed it at less than 200 lbs wringing wet (and possibly much less) and sacrificed muscle size for lean-ness.

There are a few Getbiggers who have done the same and have abs just about as good as those shown above, so maybe they'll cut in and reveal their secret if it's anything other than hard work and a phenominally strict diet.
-------------------------

Tim, I know two brothers. One is lean and ripped Competitive Bodybuilder) and the other is bulked to the gills (Powerlifter). The lean one refers to his big bro as the "Blocky Blunder" and the bulked up one refers to his leaner bro as something that even GetBiggers would be offended by.

Tim, what year was that Scott cover shot taken? The date is too small for me to read on my screen.

And that is the best shot of Page I've ever seen. I never thought he looked that good. Big surprise.
----------------

PS... of all the pros shown earlier in this post, I've only had the misfortune to have not worked with or  met two of them... Basil and Wayne... but I did talk to Wayne a couple of times while he had a column in one of Weider's magazines. That column of his was the only thing concerning BB worth reading back then.

i'm thinking stuff like advances in diet, "supplementation", and ,specifically, advances in effective cardio work (ie HIIT)

they had narrow waists simply because they didnt do gh and slin, but they didnt obsess over them, and guys like Ross and Grimek with wider hips was not considered a flaw. Today men are obsessed with having a six pack and tiny waists.  And guys like Atwood and Federov were considered flawed for having normal size hips for a man.  Roid guts is a totally differnet story.

and where are these men?  certainly not in the NPC or IFBB.  nor are they at the gyms I go to.

No mystery here...

Tons of guys in the old days had great abs, but again a lot of guys had terrible abs.

Tons of guys today have great abs, but again a lot of guys have terrible abs.

Some people didn't even train abs back them, same as today.

Some people are genetically predisposed to symmetrical deep abs, some are not.

It's all about bodyfat levels.

Funny seeing that pic of Bill Pearl with abs. Most of his famous shots were "vacuum" type shots.

That one pic almost looks like Boyer Coe, but I don't ever remember seeing visible abs on him.

according to wikipedia

Metrosexual is a neologism of the 2000s generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance or a lifestyle that displays attributes stereotypically related to homosexual men.

since all the heterosexual men where I live are either Russian immigrants or Latin American immigrants, I'd say that's probably true.   (I live in a gay ghetto.)

I think metrosexuality is insecurity.. Something is off in the self esteem department if the guy has to go the extra mile and shave and primp himself like a girl.

I guess the same thing could be said about bodybuilding in general.. but building up muscle mass increases masculinity.. metrosexuality doesn't. It swings the other way.

I enjoy being male.. and not shaving :)
