I hear people say this sort of thing all the time but if you actually think about it, it's just not true.

Baseball still generates a massive amount of money, pro baseball players are paid massive salaries.

The MLB also still generates more sales in hats, shirts and accessories than in any other sport.

MLB wouldn't survive if fans weren't still going to games and it takes a lot of them to support it, especially considering there are 162 regular season games each year.

The way I see it for people who don't like baseball anymore, yes it can be slow at times, but some people have lost appreciation for the finer aspects of the game as well as patience for the really exciting moments that happen.

Anyway, long story short, the above couldn't be true if someone didn't care.

The Yankees have the highest payroll, can't argue that. However, take away what they pay A-Rod what they pay manager Joe Girardi...I mention Giradi because managers salaries are figured into the total payroll that the players are figured into...take that out and the Yankees total payroll for the year is not that different than the Mets, Red Sox, Tigers, and pretty close to the Cubs and White Sox

I have no beef with the Yankees spending money, but this argument is ridiculous. Why would you "take out" A-Rod and Girardi? if you "took out" the managers and the star player who made the most money on all the teams above, they'd be much lower in payroll also.

dude, i'm a sox fan (and i'm no bandwagoner either- i still remember the todd benziger/marty barret years) but i have no problem saying that, in my honest opinion, the angels are a great team that actually "produces" runs and plays great fundamental baseball

Petite walked five because he pitched around dangerous righties. Better standing on 1st than rounding the bases.

I am the biggest Yankee fan I know, but I can't buy this rationale. You can't "take out" Arod.

But you can say that about 50 million of their payroll is paying home grown talent that became superstars (Rivera/Jeter/Posada/Pettitte). So give them credit for spending the cash to keep their core players in pinstripes for their entire career, something that is extremely rare in sports these days.

Robertson had the highest k/inning ratio in MLB this year. Look for him and Marte to be the set up guys next year, with Hughes and Chamberlain back to the rotation.

Cashman gets slammed to much - the Marte and Swisher trades were absolute theft.

Pedro did Pitched 4 complete innings.Pettite 5.2 .......
In less innings Pedro stroke out 5, same as Pettite
Pedro Allowed just 3 hits (one was a poor fielding by Victorino)....
You say Petitte walked 5 because he was pitching around "dangerous" rightties.
So I guess Pedro gave only 2 walks because the Yankees line up is not as "dangerous" then.
