A shooting at Fort Hood prompted the base and nearby schools to order a lockdown, according to a report on MSNBC.

The news station said seven people were killed and 12 wounded. The station said there were two suspects in the shootings.

KCEN-TV in Central Texas reported that one person was in custody and one was still at large. It quoted a source as saying that shooter has a high-powered rifle and is aiming to kill.

Killeen ISD says all Fort Hood schools are on lockdown.

At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base's public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.

The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said. A third shooter may be involved, according to NBC News affiliate KCEN, which said the person had opened fire on the SWAT team at the base.

KCEN reported that a policeman was among those shot.

The Hood website is down and we're not getting anything that the media doesn't have. I hope they can quickly ID these folks so we know if its a derangement or an attack. I just got back from the gym...half day etc, I'd kinda like to know if they're gonna shut us down as well. They're saying as many as 30 wounded.

Seems like two shooters is not really a terrorist attack. Maybe zetas?

Its gonna be a bit before they get all the details. First reports are always wrong. We're not doing anything special here and it seems that nobody else, across the Army is either. If however the "arab sounding name thing" turns out to be anything...then its gonna be a painful couple of weeks. We just had an Airman get wacked in Juarez strip joint..where he wasn't supposed to be. We're banned from crossing into Juarez.

Unreal....this guy had two hand guns..he had to reload. It appears he had a shoot out with the Post Police. Most military posts have a combination of MP's and contracted police who have taken over most of the day to day "street" duties. They're mostly retired or ex military police, in some cases they're actual Federal police and others they're a contracted security company such as Wachenhut or Agesis.

hh6, they are now reporting that their were shootings at a base theatre too......wow.......I passed thru Hood and it's surreal to see it on TV in this context...

I thought a terror attack was when it was politically motivated. hard to define it. Those 2 pricks in DC sniping terrorized the nation for weeks. And Mcveigh?

I'm guessing it ends up being 1 shooter, and the others were just people who drew their weapon in the confusion and were taken into custody on precaution by the police.

I know, I never understand that. Although it's very preliminary, if it was a 3 people, it would be more likely it was a planned attack with some type of agenda.

I love how Barry gives a press conference about this tragedy and has to repeatedly spout off about his respect for the men and women in uniform over and over like he's campaigning again.

Apparently the piece of excrement that converted to Islam and murdered a dozen people didn't hear Obama's speech to the Muslim world. I don't think he accepted Obama's apology.

Funny..one of my soldiers just said the same thing to me...They just allowed a Doctor a sikh and another, a muslim..both soldiers to keep their beards and wear the turban, while in uniform. They're both doctors but u don't find Jews wearing yalmuka's in uniform. We seem to lead the way in PC crap. We become an experiment for all the social morons..whether its safety or banning tobacco and porn. I leave for Iraq in two weeks and we just found out that when we get on our buses from the Kuwait AP to our base...we have to wear golf shirts and take our ACU tops off so we don't offend the Kuwaiti's. This is Dept of State at its best!!
