I know that Mormons claim to be Christians....but their beliefs concerning Jesus Christ and Salvation are not the same as the Christian bible teaches.

So, to account for that, they teach that the Bible was not 'complete' until, thankfully, Joseph Smith came and brought forward the Book of Mormon.  They are taught from a very early age to be thankful for the prophet, Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and for 'the church'.  Up 'til now, I have not devoted enough time to telling my daughter that her mother and grandparents are full of shit, not because they're bad people, but because 'they just don't know any better, honey'.

Quote
You mean Mormonism?

I knew that religion was a business long before I began studying Mormonism, but man, they've taken it to a whole new level.

I'm willing to turn a blind eye and grant them an exception on alcohol sales.  But I find it very interesting that a church that has such a supposedly vehement position against pornography would have in its leadership (he's a Seventy) an individual that profits directly from the porn industry...and that the profits of same go towards tithing.  Never purchased any of their porn, but I am a silver rewards member with Marriott.

Quote
Tre, by saying you have Christians nailed do you mean the people themselves or Christianity (beliefs/teachings/scripture-wise)?

Both, because the people don't know their history and are generally too unwilling to explore truths - or even possibilities - that have not been handed to them by their so-called 'authorities'.

Uh Oh. The AP is reporting that Hasan was carrying on his massacre while shouting 'Allahu Akbar.' His (unknown?) motive aside, this is gonna shift the fear-mongering into hyperdive.   :-X

poor bastards like him watch too much tv, spend to much time surfing on al quaeda websites , are psychologically unstable and suffer from huge insecurities that someday explode for some stupid random reason, like when some white girl he was secretly in love with at work, laughed at his ugly arab's face again .

Jeez. Don't they, though. Religious fervour or plain crazy-crazy? I wonder if the nut now shooting up Orlando has upped his game and has a religious angle?

Well, from what I've read, chanting "allahu akbar" while doing those things abstains them of all guilt and makes sure they get to heaven. It's what separates them from being plain old murderers.

He's one of the Army guys who thought he should be banging a hot blonde, because he's a doctor, rather than the fat chicks he usually picked up at Polly's Cafe after work.

He was pissed off because all the girls he wanted were fucking junior enlisted guys.

Any 'God' that uses you to do his work in this manner is a POS and you should be made into dogfood. What the hell is the matter with people!? Why can't they think for themselves?  :-\

Anyone who subscribes to the words of a book written by a desert nomad thousands of years ago is a moron.

It's sickening that there are still people like that when you look around and see how technologically advanced humanity has become. Pushing the boundaries of science and yet people still kill because a book says to.

And anyone who has read the Koran and isn't a Muslim can see that it was clearly written for no other reason than to justify Mohammed's militaristic aims. The sword verses "came to him" at the same time he started expanding his empire through brute force. Needed a way to dupe all those retards into killing for him.

Exactly right...the initial spread of Islam happened because of 'pledge allegiance or die'.  How it continued, however, is what I'm interested in learning more about.

There's no trinity in Islam so what you're saying would more or less be considered polytheism. Same thing could be said of Catholics who pray to Mary as Co-Redemptrix.

Religion is man made, anyways. Individually, people probably need it to help them make sense of the world or rationalize the unexplained. Culturally.... we'd have a lot less war & suffering without it.
Your second paragraph... This is the reason why myths (like Greek Mythology) was developed---to make sense of a world and it's many phenomena. In fact we get the word "Hell", from the Norse mythology, "Hel", being the opposite of Valhalla, and being underneath Middle Earth

No.

Muslims worship Allah.

Christians worship Christ.

Muslims do not accept Christ as God.

---------------------------------

ksatriceps,  Does Surah 9:111 state that to kill or be killed in the name of Allah will ensure a place for the muslim in heaven/"paradise"?   If not, what is it saying please?  Is it referring to jihad or is it just a general statement?

Also, if it does say that, what is the context surrounding Surah 9:111?  Does the surrounding text negate the possibility of someone like this guy at Ft. Hood going to heaven?

[Taubah 9:111] Indeed Allah has purchased from the Muslims their lives and their wealth in exchange of Paradise for them; fighting in Allah's cause, slaying and being slain; a true promise incumbent upon His mercy, (mentioned) in the Taurat and the Injeel and the Qur’an; who fulfils His promise better than Allah? Therefore rejoice upon your deal that you have made with Him; and this is the great success.

Hi STella, It's referring to jihad. In the circumstances that I've mentioned earlier and not any random killing as what that guy did.

From reading this thread, it appears that the left leaning types, or socialist/european types seem more prone to defend and excuse the radical Islamic atrocities.  I wonder why any logical person with any sense of decency could possibly defend individuals who savagely murder innocents every day, yet get morally outraged if someone deprives a terrorist of a bit of sleep.

exactly

Many of the stories in the Bible - plagues, for example - are the result of the same way of thinking.  "We have to explain this!"

Interestingly enough, there are millions of people who think that God manages the weather and associated phenomena the same way that people play Madden on PS3.

And how would you know that?

You do realize that a terrorist is condemned by the religion and the people. According to Islam, they go to hell for that. But again, what do you know.

180?  HAHA!

It's weird...the Mormons aren't quite sure what to make of me, but I have been referred to as 'an agent of the Adversary'.  In general, they have a hard time reconciling the fact that I'm a nice guy with the fact that I consider them all to be out of their minds.  They often play the 'respect our beliefs' card, but don't understand that that carries with it an obligation for them to respect MY belief that they are nutjobs.  Their job is made harder by the fact that their kids usually love me, cuz I'm just so much fun...just like the Devil.

The Baptists just tell me I was 'raised better than that' and that I'm going to hell if I don't change my ways.

Ra/Zeus=God,Horus/Hercules=Jesus (son of Zeus and Virgin, just look at the two names), all the minor gods=Angels

religions are built upon one another, like new cities built upon the old. Take the good that you like build upon it, and discard what you don't like or what makes yours look bad.
