Tre were you shunned for your  "peculiar" sexual proclivities....

Mormons didn't even admit blacks until the 70s.

Me?! I don't trust anyone that doesn't drink coffee.

No. Just a name-link with your point about social Darwinism. Those two live for that stuff.

Christian God died for his children.
Muslim God wants his children to die for him.

I just think it's a shame people can't be brave enough to live without religion/god and believe in themselves instead...

QFT.  Can you imagine how great the Middle East could be if they abandoned all religion?

This is a step in the right direction:

Secular humanism is a humanist philosophy that espouses reason, ethics, and justice, and specifically rejects the supernatural and the spiritual as the basis of moral reflection and decision-making.

Like other types of humanism, secular humanism is a life stance that focuses on the way human beings can lead good, happy and functional lives.

Secular humanism is also called "scientific humanism". Biologist E. O. Wilson claimed it to be "the only worldview compatible with science's growing knowledge of the real world and the laws of nature"

Try again.

There were the Jews.  A group of upstarts got fed up with Jewish law and decided to create a 'Christ', which would give 'God' a more loving personality.  This was much better for business, so Christianity began to flourish.

The Muslims then split off from the Christians and one idea is that this happened because those Christians (who became Muslims) did not feel that the new laws - as compared to the old Jewish laws - were strict enough.

They all have the same God, but it doesn't surprise me that you're not aware of this truth, because it's been well-disguised by those who profit the most from the very existence of religion.

??? you been on that crack tre ?

I see what you are saying and yes, Christians accept the OT as true...they believe what it says about Abraham and Moses etc....but Christians believe in a triune God.  God = Father/Son/Holy Spirit

Christians believe Christ is God and worship Him.

You're right in that Islam thinks Christ was a prophet but Islam doesn't recognize Christ as God.

sorry stella but i disagree, anyone that worships christ as god is worshipping a false god, he is not god he is gods son - as we all are. he possessed god like powers perhaps, but again he is not god. there is one god, muslims jews christians all worship him.

also the trinity of - father/son/holy spirit is only believed by catholic christians, prodestans do not accept the holy spirit.

You just agreed with me yourself in the highlighted portion.

That said, in MY (this is a personal thing) book, Jesus has always been #2.  When certain bible-thumpers would approach me on the street to interrogate me as to whether I believed Jesus was GOD, I would just say 'no' and laugh as they got bent out of shape.  Regardless of what I believed to be true, it just wasn't that important to me.  I didn't give a shit...they never seemed to understand that I honestly did not care about my 'salvation'.

So Jesus is - according to you - a 'false god'.  Again, big fucking deal.  The guy died for your sins...for the 'sins of the world', right?  So what's wrong with worshipping the guy a little?

Regarding the trinity, you're wrong there, too.  MANY protestant faiths, like the Baptists and Methodists, accept the doctrine of the trinity.  The Presbyterians believe in it as well, but have taken a more modern approach to its interpretation in recent years.

Are you a Christian, fatpanda?

Are you a Christian, fatpanda?

i was raised a catholic, and have taught about islam, judiaism, hinduism, sikhism and buddism while working as a primary teacher.

i consider myself a buddhist as it just makes so much sense. it also answered questions i had regarding christianity etc without actually talking about it and other religions.

Why do you need a religion?

we are not here to own people on getbig, work to pay rent, meet people and fuck like animals.

We must be here for a reason, for a greater purpose.

The day you die you will more than likely be struck with an overwhelming fear that you have wasted your life in a rat race on a hamster wheel going nowhere. While in reality all you had to do was jump off and explore the real world.

jump off the wheel chimps !

There's no greater purpose. This is all there is. You should make the best of it. I know I am. Don't need a religion for that.  :)

[Taubah 9:111] Indeed Allah has purchased from the Muslims their lives and their wealth in exchange of Paradise for them; fighting in Allah's cause, slaying and being slain; a true promise incumbent upon His mercy, (mentioned) in the Taurat and the Injeel and the Qur’an; who fulfils His promise better than Allah? Therefore rejoice upon your deal that you have made with Him; and this is the great success.

Hi STella, It's referring to jihad. In the circumstances that I've mentioned earlier and not any random killing as what that guy did.

Interesting.  Thanks for that info.

Yeah, we're not going to agree on that!  :)

Panda, do you know why the muslims accept Jesus as a prophet if He (Jesus) claimed to be God and accepted worship from people?  Seems like they'd reject a person like that entirely?  Maybe ksa_triceps could answer too please?

Actually Tre is right, protestants do accept the Trinity.

i consider myself a buddhist

Panda, I thought I read that Buddism doesn't really have a God?  Not sure about that though.

.

They say that Christ never claimed to be God, that others, such as Paul, claimed that.
