my thoughts on the fedor rogers fight
« on: November 07, 2009, 08:25:01 PM »
first of all rogers did alot better than i thought he would. i really think he would do ok in the ufc. with that being said the guy is an idiot. he talked crazy during the showtime special then after he got knocked out he talks crazy and gets booed during his post fight interview. i mean he wasn;t even humbeled after his defeat..if big john wouldn;t have stepped in rogers face would have smashed and he would be in the emergency room right now. its time these american fighters act more humble..fedor is a great example of how a fighter should carry himself

i understand that they all don;t act like that but the majority do. MOST american athletes act like that..nfl, baseball basketball.i am just saying that they could learn from fedor..he is very humble. just because you are the best doesn;t mean that you have to act like it. if you are everyone knows it anyway..thats all i am saying

Rogers had Fedor in a little bit of trouble on the ground, but Fedor countered with serious sub threats.

Brock would have one round to finish Fedor if he got him on the ground.  If he couldn't, he'd get subbed or ko'd just like Brett did.

A legend in action.  History in the making.  And this time for free on CBS.

Fedor out of shape. Gets cut. Bret takes advantage but somehow can't come up with the chops to knock the Russian out. Fedor smells blood, literally, and knocks the fuck out of him.

This is such script we've seen before.

It's getting boring now. The promoters ought to demand fighters come into decent shape and REALLY ready for fights.

Rogers was not ready.

NEXT.

This is such an embarrassment for the UFC. They're the top MMA org in the world, but, they don't have the #1 Heavyweight.

I'll bet, everyday, Dana hopes Fedor will announce his retirement.

Dana White could have had Fedor in the UFC if Dana would have kept his ego out of negotiations.

Rogers looked the best that I have ever seen of him. Guy came in looking to win and fought hard.

Fedor is the best and knocked him out.

Seemed like a pretty good fight to me.

Fedor is definitely in a class by himself - but he is not light years ahead of everybody out there. Rogers showed that his freakish strength carried the fight into the second round -Fedor tried to submit him a few times and Rogers powered his way out of it- impressive. Rogers showed he punches like a mule kicks, I think he would eat Brock up if Brock did not get it to the ground QUICKLY. Take a guy with Rogers size, strength, punching power and give him a solid submission game and Fedor can be beaten, he will be beaten eventually, they all are.

I think Rogers would do VERY WELL in the UFC, I haven't seen enough of Carwin and the Cain to make a decision on how those fights would go. Fedor definitely has the mental edge over most if not all of his opponents, that is HUGE in the final analysis of him.

Rogers did a good job, I think he and his camp have  A LOT to be proud of . I think Rogers could use some of Fedors humility, but I also understand Rogers is young, competitive and was frustrated.

After watching Fedor last night Brock has the best chance of beating him
Just my humble opinion

the biggest shock for me was the size of that event, i had no idea strikeforce were big enough to totally pack a huge arena like that. the numbers attending looked on par with a ufc big card.  as an organisation strikeforce looks like its being run well and i hope to see many more cards.

id love to see fedor vs overeem but it will have to happen overseas so he can pass the gear test.

funny when the only 2 men in the world (overeem and brock) who people think have a chance are total steroid abusers and i say that without meaning to take away the fact that both of them reguardless are fantastic athletes.

id much rather see overeem than brock.

the brock fight is more of a dream fight in peoples head as they see brock as being superhuman.

brocks huge improvement is not striking or submission.  his advantage is he uses his wrestlin and superior strength to hold people down and ground and pound them.
there is no one on the planet who has come close to ground and pounding fedor, leaving brock with no advantage and forced to play sub or strike and we know how that ends.

Excellent card-- All the fights were entertaining

Fedor does what he always does, but Rogers impressed me. He did way better than I expected he would.

Some people have mentioned that Fedor will not be as dominant in the cage as he is in the ring. I dont think he will lose anytime soon, but I feel that last night we witnessed some rust in his armor. A big strong guy can at the very least impose his will on Fedor and pressure him in the cage.

I still feel like he would beat Brock, but after last night I do think it would be much tougher a task that I thought it would be.

rogers showed he has got massive potential taking it to fedor but he lost due to inexperience, but fedors time is slowly passing him by because of his age and the new breed of heavyweight contenders coming up through the ranks.

fedor is the last fighter to have all the skills necessary to defeat a fighter bigger, stronger and hits harder than him. but even the great joe lewis eventually couldnt keep up with the younger fighters when he got old. only thing stopping fedor is his age.

ALL HAIL THE LAST EMPEROR!!!!!!

i agree with you...for me, the only difference in Fedor 'attitude' on the fight, or the way he fought, was the cage factor...He would not be put in pressure like he was if it was a ring...the time Rogers ground n punded him, would only happen if he was in the corner, and even like that he would have more space to escape...The same way he was held in the walls of the cage by rogers....In a ring Fedor would have put in on the ground in 1 second...

IMHO he NEEDS to train in a cage from now on, at least in some part of his trainning...just this little adjustment and its all good

Perhaps.  But Fedor would smash him.  Didn't you see how Fedor tossed around Rogers using Roger's bodyweight against him?

Fedor was impressive.

Fedor using Rogers (non wrestler) weight against him would not happen against Brock just reality. We can speculate all we want but until Fedor goes to UFC it's not going to happen.

Of course the fight won't happen as Fedor isn't in the UFC.

I just don't see Brock being in the same league as Fedor.  He truly is a living legend.

just reading on these posts and i've got a couple of thoughts. first of all fedor is the best pound for pound fighter in the world end of story..he is a thinker in the ring watch him before he knocks out rogers he knew what rogers was going to do and his timing was perfect. secondly rogers is not a can he would be in the top 3 or 4 in the ufc right now..and would be a quick contender for the title. thirdly fedor would still run through the ufc right now..no doubt about it....although like someone else said his time is running out. his speed and timing is everything and he will eventually slow down with age
