Senator suggests Ft. Hood shooting a 'terrorist attack'
« on: November 08, 2009, 08:09:26 PM »
Homeland Security Chairman Sen. Joe Lieberman told Fox News' Chris Wallace that he wants the Department of Defense to launch an investigation into the shooting rampage at Ft. Hood. Lieberman said evidence indicates that Major Nidal Malik Hasan was probably a "self-radicalized, homegrown terrorist."

The New York Times reports, however, that investigators have tentatively concluded it was not part of a terrorist plot.

"If the reports that we're receiving of various statements he made, acts he took, are valid, he had turned to Islamist extremism, and, therefore, if that is true, the murder of these 13 people was a terrorist act and, in fact, it was the most destructive terrorist act to be committed on American soil since 9/11," Lieberman said Sunday.

According to this morning's New York Times, investigators have not ruled out the possibility Major Hassan "believed he was carrying out an extremist's suicide mission," but so far they have no evidence he was directed into violence or "ever traveled overseas to meet with extremist groups."

Lieberman wants the Department of Defense to conduct a special investigation to see if the shootings could have been predicted. "While the Army and the FBI are conducting the criminal investigation about exactly what happened and what Dr. Hasan should be charged with, the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense has a real obligation to convene an independent investigation to go back and look at whether warning signs were missed, both the stress he was under, but also the statements that he was making," he said.

This crime should absolutely be investigated.  Lots of Qs arising on this one.  Nobody wants it to be called 'terrorism' because then Beck and Rush can gloat that Obama didn't stop a terror attack, etc - because ya konw they will :(

But yeah, why not look into the crime?  13 brave soldiers murdered, it's a pretty big deal.

Its amazing that we even have to have these discussions.  Before, this is all over, the psychos in the media will be blaming the military for this.  They do appear culpable to the extent that they did not deal with this freak sooner when they had the warnings.

I saw someone defending the military yesterday saying, let's wait till the investigation is done before jumping to conculsions...  I agree... Imagine that... I think someone else said the same thing recently?  And got mocked here?

What is the actual definition of a terror attack?

The guy shot dozens of American soldiers, because of political and religious beliefs.

I mean, so what if he didn't travel to meet some pricks in afghanistan?  McVeigh never traveled to the mid east either, and he was certainly a terrorist.

A terrorist imo is a person or group of people that seek to change the minds of the people through an act or many acts of violence.  Pretty simple really.  The only reason the definition gets clouded is from all the people trying to capitilize in the aftermath of a terror attack, such as the idiots after 9/11 that tried to tell everyone, via broadcast commercials across the nation, if you smoke pot you are supporting the terrorists.

So if this guy was trying to affect opinion of the population, he was a terrorist.  Does that mean he was a part of a terrorist organization, maybe, maybe not.

I dont get whats to investigate?A muslim extremist goes on a shooting rampage screaming ALLAH AKBAR.It seems pretty obvious what happened. The Army never did a dam thing about him because its politically correct to let people have their views, even in the US ARMY.So they let this nut stay in the military, knew hois beliefs, and they got what should have been  expected out of him.
