Internet help please
« on: November 13, 2009, 11:44:07 AM »
I am trying to connect my PS3 to the internet using an ethernet cable. I have done it before but 'error DNS 80710104' comes up - This has to do with teh router I believe. I read that if you turn it off and on it will help.

Can anyone help me as how to do this please.

Do you have your router dynamically assign IPs for each device on the network or did you set it up to assign discrete IPs for each device? Also, is it set up to allow for MAC filtering? Those can keep a new device from getting proper access. They're easy to fix though.
Almost always, yes.

MAC addresses are addresses on every device on a network. Since you don't know about it, it's probably not set up like that. Try this link and see if it helps you. If not, come back and we'll try to get to the bottom of it.

Google "error DNS 80710104" - plenty of help in gaming forums on that subject.

Ursus:

Obviously, you can post, so you have Net access. Describe EXACTLY how the PS3 is hooked to your router as well as the computer that you are using. Is the PS3 previously-owned?

PS3 is previously owned from a friend - i bought ion on teh condition if it fucks up in the first year he sorts it out

i can pick up some random persons wireless internet and have done a few times before and can use it but should not be doing this - also if my ethernet cable and ps3 worked i would never have done it or tried it

My broadband connection is wired and previously i have simply connected an ethernet cable to the back of my broadband bozx, went to network connections and done a simple quick start and it has worked.

This computer is only 6 or so weeks old - I dont think i have used ethernet cable and pse with my broadband box since i got this pc. My comp is brand new HP

I done a quick reformat and cleared hard drive. There is option of a system backup which totally resets it. Would this be worth doing?

Are you sure it's not picking up an IP from the router?

No, if you are able to get on the Net with your existing computer, don't reformat.

I think that the prob might be with the PS3's net setup. Your friend may have had setting customized for his/her personal network.

Go here to see how to reset the PS3 to original settings. This is a simple description of how to setup once you've reset the PS3.

Update us when you do it. Good luck! :)
