I am pretty bummed out by this news. I was making plans to hit the IM this yr, instead of the Arnold , for a new experience in BB.
The reality is that a lot of pro BB shows, don't get promoted in a consistant fashion.Even when they go on as planned, getting ADVANCE tickets is a hassle.
Over the years, I have seen shows come and go on the IFBB pro circuit.
This is part of the reason why I returned to being a hockey and baseball fan again.
Dealing with an NHL and MLB franchise for season tickets is lot less hassle than trying to get tickets for most pro BB events.

x2 - the lighting was always good for that show. Not sure if it was a combination of the venue and the lighting combined or just the lighting technology itself.

It's the work of Michael Neveux, Iron Man photographer and part-owner. The venue has changed 4-5 times and the technology of course, is always improving but Mike is a genius in that arena.
and keep moving!

Ah yes Mike Neveux - I used to have a physique photgraphy book by him - he was the guy who shot the Haney lat spread in New York with the steam coming out of the subway behind him - very good photographer.

every other promoter should hire the IRONMan light crew. the best photos of most pro's were taken over the years at the IRONMan. better than a week or two later at the Arnold where they actually peaked.  the only show that compared for lighting was one grand prix in Europe in 99

Really the supplement companies are to blame.  I mean they make billions off of bbers yet can't fund a proper bbing show?

they make billions off of teens and twenty-somethings who go to the gym, but never have seen a bodybuilding show.  The people who attend the shows (amateur and pro) really don't buy the supplements.

I blame the drug companies, Schering,Organon,British Dispensary,Pliva etc make so much money off bodybuilders that they should sponsor some shows

I doubt they make billions, though I do see your point. But in reality not a lot of these companies make much to stay in business.  A lot of them end up getting bought out. Over a decade ago, Weider MetRx and Twinlab were battling for athletes, now its M-tech , BSN, and  Gaspari!   But this sport is hard to sell tickets to the outside world.  Most tix are given out free to IFBBers (or vouched or something like that) the rest are purchased by family members and poor NPC guys like me.   : :'(

i guess bodybuilding is "not bigger than ever",
huh dumbass?

The promoter, in this case, John Balik, owns Ironman Magazine. His investment would have been the Sanction Fee, and any other related overhead to the show production (i.E.- Securing Venue, promotional materials, etc)

The sponsors are mostly the supplement companies, who pay a fee to the promoter for space/ ad copy for the show...

Some of these are non refundable...

Do bodybuilders and fans REALLY want the expo?  I mean I love the free stuff (samples)   but the those expos  are just so crowded with meat heads.   To this day  i am still getting junk mail and emails  from some vendor at the ASC back in 2005!

I know I would be more interested in attending the Olympia Expo than the actual show.

and new subtractions from the following years schedule.

Q - how can a show with 20+ years of history/prestige suddenly get canceled?
A - less paying gays in attendance & bodybuilding is not bigger than ever.

hope this helps

I guess it depeds on the meathead ooops I mean person.   But being more interested in  the expo than the actual show is like going to a football game for the tailgate instead of the actual game.  Go figure! ???

Lonnie Teper will have to wait until the Arnold Classic for his next grope fest.  He must be crushed right now.
