I don't see why they would be saying he may never fight again if that's what it really is.  To my knowledge diverticulitis isn't debilitating like Crohn's or Colitis.

diverticulitis can be some serious shit, worst case scenario he may have to have a length of intestine removed.. might even end up with a colostomy bag.

I had an acute case of this last november, had to go to the ER as I was having the worst abdominal pains of my life.  the situation cleared up with some heavy antibiotics thankfully.. but from what I understand it can turn into a chronic condition for some people.

I think without early treatment an intestinal rupture is a legit possibility.
