Powerlifters and their result!
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:05:42 AM »
I have a friend. He won the European championship in bench press. The organisation is called IPF. He is like 100kg and did 260 something with bench shirt. He is around 220-230 raw. Very strong.

BUT! When Im watching benchpress at youtube there is a lot of guys throwing around those weights in raw benchpress. How come?? I mean if u win European championship in some other sport, like 100m, weight lifting, hurdles, long jump, pole jump, there is no amateur that can compete with you.

Why is it like this in powerlifting?

Remember that in IPF they test so you can't be on full steam. Also competition is very different situation than a gym lift you can film at any time.

Also some people just don't like to compete AT ALL.

Think how many videos there are on youtube of bench presses. 95% are under 405lbs. It is just the big presses get the views.

Also I wont titles and came second in a 'Major' comp. Sad thing was only two were in my class, and I got beat by like 40kg  :'(

I had no business being there - just a young opportunist

Form is a big thing too, like most guys who can throw up 500 in a gym on film, with weights that may or maybot be fake, couldn't do it slowly and controlled enough for the official referee guy to shout "good lift" or whatever, you have to pause at the bottom and everything. That's my technical analysis anyway  ;D

Post some of those clips of guys weighing 100 kilos who "throws" around 220-230 kilos raw.

A pause for me takes off maybe 5-10kg.

I am sure that the more you lift the greater the amount it takes off. So a guy who gym benches 220kg in a comp may struggle to press 200kg.
