OZARK, Ark. (Nov. 18) -- Ozark Police Chief Jim Noggle says one of his officers used a Taser on a 10-year-old girl who was combative when the officer tried to get the girl into a patrol car to be taken to a youth shelter.

Yep, and the mom couldn't control her so she told the cop to tase him.....or at least thats what the article I read about it said.

Typical, it shows you that the mother doesn't know bow to discipline nor raise her kid. I'm certain she is one of those parents, that tried to be her kids friend, and the kid runs things, by the tome the child is 10 mom can't discipline the child, it's too late...enter cops to take care of a 10 yr old child.

so cops always do what they are asked? was he not capable of exercising any independent judgment in the situation. that cop should be fired, regardless of what a 10 year old did.

at 10 years old all you really need to do is take off your belt and hit them a couple of times... if that doesnt work then a good slap in the face should straighten her out.

Why should a cop have to put up with a thrashing little kid and put up with any possible injury? I don't think tasers are used enough. Any suspect who even looks like he's gonna resist should be tased first thing, even if its a little kid. I guarantee that girl will never resist the police again.

yes, 10 year old girls can inflict serious bodily harm...this cop has to be the biggest pussy on the planet.

No, that is exactly how the scenario goes. You see, this is textbook "Baby Boomer Parenting", this type of parenting was first started by them. Ain't no need to call the police on a 10 yr old, unless YOU as a parent do not have control of them. If a child is not raised in a structured environment, in which the child is raised that the parent runs things, this wouldn't have happened.
Also, the fact that the kid kicked the police officer shows that the kid is a lil badass, any child raised in a structured and disciplined environment, would have been scared of the police. But they saw them as another "playbuddy", whom they didn't want to listen to.

No but even an open palmed slap to a young child is over the line... sure you got beat up by your dad and you probably hated him for it chances are you had an awkward and unnaturally 'professional' relationship with him (i've seen this shit), respect is one thing but fucks sake handle yourself when dealing with something you wish to shape into a respectable human being not a delinquent child.

Anyway I'm not a violent person, nor are any of my relatives or family, all raised on the same values and laurels but my parents never 'SMACKED ME UP', sure I got a clip across the ears or a kick up the bum if I broke something or teased/bullied a sibling, but I always respected my parents because they taught me what to/what not to do. Beating on a kid doesn't re-inforce anything, but maybe I'm just having a hard time picturing the type of discipline you're referring to.

dude, i was on a call one day when a 12 year old boy tried to stab me with a steak knife. the guy i was training went for his tazer, but i punched(just once) the shit out of the kid before he could be tazed.

we showed up and the kid was upstairs, and the mom was yelling at him from downstairs " if you keep cutting yourself i will take your computer away". so i instantly say to the new guy "what the fuck, lets get upstairs", we get to this kids bedroom and he had cuts all over his chest, arms, and legs and a knife in hand. then the little "A-hole" tried to stab me!!!

we sent him with MHMR(mental health) for evaluation, and we arrested the mom for something too. i don't remember what we arrested her for though

Wrong, upbringing is but a facture (nature vs nurture debate ring any bells?). There's enough kids with conduct disorder, PPD-NOS and the like that had a great structured upbringing that still end up as little wretches. I'm not disputing that structure, support, love and boundaries are beneficial to a child's development. You simply can't make any inferences based on a few lines in the newspaper. In the APA code of conduct (American Psychological Association) it's stated that no psychologist is to diagnose anyone without having extensively personally interviewed and examined a client/person/patient/nuttjob. It's a very sensible rule.

About 5 months ago, I had just gotten off of work (midnight shift) and I was at a McDonalds, wasn't crowded, there was this young mother in line in front of me, she was pleading with her son to sit down at one of the tables. She was saying please, and why don't you listen to me. He just looked her and laughed. He was about 3-4 yrs old. He was climbing over the seats in a manner that he would fall and hit his head. After 10 minutes of hearing her beg her child to sit down, I raised my voice at him, told him to listen to his mother and sit down before he cracks his head. He complied, real quick. She sheepishly said thank you.

Some kids, yes don't need a beating, some just need told authoritatively what to do. Begging your child is putting yourself on their level, or them on yours, whichever way you want to look at it
