Why bodybuilding does not do well on TV
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:05:56 PM »
Its more of a joke to the main stream public, they can't understand why someone would want to look all muscled up/

Actually, IMO it's because a BB show is boring as fuck. I tried to watch one, but it's so dull. The same with the DVD's. No offense to anyone who likes them but i don't understand how you can watch a 2 hour movie about a guy working out and eating flank steak.

I love bodybuilding but I have to agree with the guy up top, bodybuilding contests are extremely boring.  My friends who went to bodybuilding contests with me wanted to leave half way thru it.

Three biggest complaints I hear are..

1. Too slow
2. In comparison rounds its same 4 song played over and over again
3. Too long

Men in thongs only appeal to a small demographic.

It's simply too boring - especially all the prejudging stuff where it's incredibly repetitive.

The posing round is the only entertaining bit and even that can get tedious if you've got a bunch of guys who can't hit the poses properly or don't move in time to the music or simply use the same music over and over again. They should bring in a rule where no two competitiors can use the same piece of music in the same show - not sure how they would enforce it though.

Matt T Can only dream of being the speciman posted above. Neanderthals had an estimated 5000 calorie limit just to live. Imagine walking around with all those muscles and having tendons thick enough to grab a tree limb and bend it down to pick fruit or whatever. They say their bones were much denser then ours and that gene flow between humans and Neanderthals wasn't possible. A shame they went extinct.

His name is Robbie Anchant aka Robster Le Monster.  He trains at my gym.
Never seen him look so fat before.  He's 5'6", legit 20" arms.
Very nice guy.

This is very true. Honestly all the strength sports are pretty boring after a while, minus maybe Strongman. In my opinion, the most watchable thing is the Fortissimus shows out of Canada. It would also be interesting to an old style WSM show with 70's-early 80's styled events.

Here's a few minutes of highlights from the 2008 Fortissimus-

Yes, admiring the high performance the human body is capable of is an acceptable thing. Marveling at a man dancing around in a thong? Not so much.
