Palin tells Canada to get rid of public health care
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:50:12 PM »
Sarah Palin inadvertently stepped into Canadian politics earlier this week when she told the crew of a CBC comedy show that America's northern neighbor should "reform its health care system and let the private sector take over" the country's medical services.

Comedian Mary Walsh of the comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, a sort of Canadian Daily Show, stormed a recent Palin book-signing in Columbus, Ohio, and said to the former Alaska governor: "I just wanted to ask you if you have any words of encouragement for Canadian conservatives who have worked so hard to try to diminish the kind of socialized medicine we have up there."

The question was tongue-in-cheek: Walsh's character, Marg Delahunty, may be a conservative, but the CBC's comedy show is decidedly not.

Walsh was pushed out of the Borders outlet as Palin tried to answer the question, but later, in the parking lot outside, Palin told Walsh that she should "keep the faith because common sense conservatism can be plugged in there in Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed."

She cracks me up... I am SO glad the mccain muzzle is off her and she can speak freely every day.  Intrade has her 2012 chances dropping daily.

I love when we tell other counties what to do.  As you know well, or should, it often goes way beyond just expressing opinion to influence other counties.

Not to mention, she's already on shaky ground trying to build confidence with the people here in American politics, what the hell is she doing telling Canadians what they should or shouldn't do ::)

Nothing wrong with her trying to just offer some support for party affiliates across the boarder. I'm serious.
It's only when there's corporate or diplomatic intervention that things are messed up.

eg. Look at Cambodia. Oil rich country and now European and American oil companies decides to come in like leeches and suck the riches out of the region.
It's 21st century colonialism.

And what we really should be talking about. Not Palin's personal life or whether Obama reads off of Teleprompters

Look at the original article. She expressed support for a political drive in Canada to get rid of public health care.

She was asked by a Canadian to give her opinion and she did.

Eg, when Al Gore shows up here in Sweden and lectures nobody is questioning him on the merits that he isn't allowed to offer an opinion on what Sweden should do.He can instead offer an outsider perspective.

Except you need to understand "This hour has 22 minutes "is a grown up version of 'Punked'
There is no movement in Canada to dismantle Universal Health Care. In fact, it is the ONE area of agreement across ALL party lines. This hour has 22 minutes are the same people who went south of the border and told Americans that Canadians were getting running water for the first time... that told Americans that Canada only has one area code, no daily newspapers and was working on a national igloo ... Just YouTube a few videos with the key words "Dumb Americans", "Stupid Americans" or "Talking With Americans" and you'll find plenty of skits by the comedy troupe. Rick Mercer, Mary Walsh, Colin Mochrie and the whole gang punk Americans every day. Laughing at the ignorance of Americans is as Canadian as poutine, maple syrup, and NHL hockey ...it's a Canadian national pastime.

You're missing the point.
She was asked to give her opinion. And she did.

For the record, I am a big supporter of universal health care.

But just because I don't share Palin's views doesn't mean I won't stand up for her right to express them.

No Hedge, I think you're missing the point. She was punked Canadian style.
It's like when those Montreal DJ's called her up and told her they enjoyed her performance in "Nailin' Palin",
...and she thanked them. What's worse, it's the type of answer she'd give if she was approached by Press TV

I can just imagine the trainwreck we would have seen had she been approached by a PressTV reporter a few months back saying "We're here representing pressTV, and we strongly support our Conservativve right wing candidate, Could you give him a shout out and let our readers know you are behind him?" She would have ran with it and spouted her usual rhetoric about how we conservatives need to stick together and I'm behind him all the way. Man... I'd probably pay good money to see her dive face first into that one. There's a good reason that handlers don't allow her to speak. The same reason handlers didn't allow George Bush to speak when he was heading into the primaries for his initial selection as the Repub candidate for 2000. Many of his handlers probably wished he didn't have to speak after his sElection as the pResident either.  ;D

If someone asked her what she thought of the huge conservative movement in Sweden to keep women out of politics and to reduce spending by simply not paying government politicians... do you think it would be wise for her to comment on such a preposterous non-existant scenario she clearly knows nothing about?

BTW - PressTV is an Iranian owned news outlet, whose conservative right wing candidate was Achmedinejad.

I understand she was punked.
You're missing the point.
She has the right to offer an opinion regardless of what the circumstances.
Sure, she probably came across as clueless to some. But that's besides the point.
There is no rule against being dumb.
I am against the idea of censorship. Trying to silence people.
Something Palin tries to do herself btw by prohibiting media at her meetings.

I'm not saying she's not entitled to have an opinion. I'm saying she wouold use some intelligence with regards to how she exercises it. I realize there's no rule against being dumb, ...but there oughtta be. :D

When Palin disallows Media at her events, ...it's not an attempt to censor herself.
It's an attempt to conceal the fact that she's an idiot.

When a person asks you something for no other reason than to laugh at your answer than your answer means fuck all. You're taking her right to answer way to seriously in this instance and Jag is totally right.

So she was supposed to know that she was being punked "Montreal Style"? LOL As if, anyone outside of Canada would know or give a shit--

The fact that she was "punked" by being asked a serious policy question and responded her opinion makes this whole mickey-mouse Canadian version of gotcha politics about as relevant as being "punked" by public access television in Mongolia.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

If Marge Delahante (or whatever her name is) came up to you to ask a question, you would know right away that it was joke, that is unless you had shit for brains which Palin has.
