Once again, a Victor Richards Thread...
« on: November 30, 2009, 10:14:57 PM »
Almost every  few yrs someone asks about Vic...well, I thought I preceed any newbie. In light of the "agree/ disagree" thread, I am inclined to think, that lifting made Vic happy, and competing did not.

Look at him at 16 yrs old...and posing with Dorian..And look at the neck.

thats because you are one of the dumb people in society- evidenced by your infatuation over the pile of shit that is nasser.

why would anyone want to diet to be hungry and deplete and go through the rigours of contest prep if they didnt have a massive ego?

Vic didnt compete because he didnt think he had anything to prove, was fine by training for the thrill, and didnt want to go through hell. thats easy to understand.

I 'm starting to have newfound respect for him. Just for this reason. bodybuilding is like any other physical discipline (but one that can involve drugs), should a Shaolin Monk fight in the ring, just to prove how good he is vs. being content with learning and with the ultimate goal of achieving Nirvana? If the mofo like to lift , let him lift. You know what is funny is that I have never read anything about him tearing other bodybuilders down---like said many do in the vid.

Bodybuilding and being in the gym must have been more fulfilling to him than it is to others...

He said he would compete when BB was for huge muscle men only not guys that were short and small.
In other words he was a big mouth , would of got cleaned up on stage through that 90s era .

Still amazing genetics .

does victor richards have a son?

Theres a guy in the university here that i've seen at the gym that has the same type of build that vic richards does, except smaller. Big but has that smooth look, if that makes sense. Sounds about the same as vic richards does too.

This post isnt gay or racist i swear  :D

Of course he would have, he wanted to lift weights, not diet and compete. I guess because people kept asking him so he said something...

Richards was scared to compete, because his ego couldn't handle his getting BEAT by smaller, but better-conditioned competitors.

When he lost to Rich Gaspari at a teenage show, he cried like a little baby. So, it's not as if he didn't EVER step on stage.

It appears he couldn't handle the scrutiny of the national-level judges. And, since he claimed they were out to get him, he used his dual-citizenship status to go back to Nigeria, win its watered-down-poor-excuse-of-a-national championship and the IFBB gave him his pro card as a result.

If he doesn't want to compete, he should stop calling himself the "uncrowned" king or "uncrowned" Mr. Olympia. Not that I ever cared for that term, but that's reserved for guys who've come within a whisker of winning it all (Kevin Levrone, Lee Labrada, etc.).

Richards ain't even close.

That's expected, he didn't know or learn how to handle defeat. Still doesn't negate his love for the iron. After he lost, he probably thought, is it worth it? Do I like lifting or competing? He still took a backdoor route to get his pro card. I think if he did diet right, that he had the goods. Just wasn't in him to compete. When he lost it probably shattered his view of himself. I firmly believe that there were people around him that hyped him up like Trey Brewer, etc, and he started to smell himself and beleive his own hype.

I don't believe he concocted the whole compete against yourself spiel just avoid competing. Whereas he seems more grounded vs Flex, Levrone, Shawn seem more brash and flashly. He eschewed that, which to me shows that he was genuinely happy pushing weight, but not competing on stage with others---he was out of his element.

If he didn't believe in competing then why did he enter that Nigerian show to get his pro card? I personally believe he feels he's a legend in his own mind, and can't handle it if someone doesn't see him as he sees himself. That's why he doesn't compete against the top pros, he's afraid to lose, because then his self image gets shattered.

I don't think less off him for not competing, but he has a small back, and only got in shape a couple of times in his life, nothing suggests he could get today's stagniations in glutes/hams etc, or get dry like today's guys.

What are these stagniations you speak of?

Actually, he did compete - I think about 5 times but only in relatively minor shows.  So he was definitely able and willing to compete, and would have competed in bigger shows if he was confident about winning.

Exactly!!!

Calling yourself the "uncrowned Mr. Olympia" doesn't speak of someone who just trains for the sake of training. He thought he was the best in the world. Yet, he wouldn't put it on the line, against seasoned competitors.

He didn't even compete against the likes of Levrone, Wheeler, DeMayo, Newman, and others at the NPC national level.

Do you know of any other Nigerian national champion who got to turn pro?

not the same, but i read that Benaziza competed in and won the world championships in his first contest.  he was from Algeria or something like that, they had no competitions, so he automatically got to represent his country.  second contest ever was the Olympia.

That first vid with the "Uncrowned MR O" was not done by him. I don't think he ever called himself that. Now, I remember back a few yrs ago their was a supplement company either he had or gave someone the rights to use his name. In that it was stated he would be 330 pound contest--Bullshit. I never believe that, and I know marketing is one thing, like Muscletch will make you 750% bigger, but 330 pounds contest, he laid it on kinda thick.  I do respect him in terms of his physique and his outlook (philosophy). And he seems pretty damn intelligent, both his parents are doctors, and he doesn't seem to have a "prove you wrong" mentality...

He has called himself the "Uncrowned Mr. Olympia". If I remember correctly, it used to be on his website.

His fans have adopted that moniker for him and keep using it. And, Richards was known for being far too critical of other pro bodybuilders, particularly those at the Olympia.

The gist is that certain pros got tired of Richards running his mouth, citing the fact that they never faces Richards at the national amateur level. Add to that the fact that he tends to show up in off-season mode, while other pros are just coming from contests.

His going to Nigeria to turn pro doesn't help his cause, either.
