I got terrible headaches during my high-rep squat program a couple months ago.  I think I was pinching a nerve in my neck with the bar sitting there for so long.  Anyone else ever have this problem?

The only problem i used to get from high rep squats (50 reps) was that my arms would get pins and needles in them from holding them up over the bar for a long time.

I did 50+ reps with 135 a few years ago and could not walk right for about 3 days.

I have seen a 140 pound woman squat 135 for 40 reps before, pretty amazing.

I think high rep squat workouts have their place in training for sure.

Even being as light as 135, 150 reps is insane!!!
He knocks them out pretty quick, sets of 5-10-20 at a time from what I can tell.
And he uses no spotters, nor does he fail.
I cannot imagine what he felt like the next couple of days! :o :o :o

That being said, when most members say it's hard to lift 135 X amount of times, it's not because the weight is hard, it's because the cardio.
Also to take into consideration is whether it's your first exercise, last and how long it takes you to do the entire set.
If you walk into the gym and bang out 135 for 20, it's far different than just completing dropsets on Hack squats, supersetting leg extensions with front squats and then knocking out 20 reps with 135...doing do all of this with no more than a minute rest between sets.

I find it hilarious that "high rep" squats with 135 lbs is that difficult for so many getbiggers.  No disrespect, but 135 lbs feels like you are doing no weight at all on a squat....its a very very easy warmup for anyone that squats regularly. 

I used to do 20 rep squats with 275 lbs and even 315 lbs.  Not a terribly difficult task.


Is anyone else here feel this way?  I mean, do getbiggers really struggle with 135 lbs for 20 reps or more?






honnestly, I have trouble running for 30 seconds without getting out of breath.
so yeah I struggled, my lungs were in deep pain  :o

No one says that a guy with the very speedy 40 yard dash can run 5 miles in "x" minutes based on his time on the 40 yard dash.  We understand that running for speed and running for distance are two very different things.

But when it comes to weight training, some lifter will always state that a guy with a 500 lb. bench can do 400 lbs. "x" times, and 300 lbs. "y" times, as if there was some "human strength schedule" that applied to everyone.

I trained with guys who could out bench me with ease, but I could do more reps with 225 lbs.  I've always been better at reps, (as well as distance in running).

Squatting 135 lbs for 85 reps just doesn't sound so superhuman to me.  You get in a groove on reps, as you would running for distance.

I train legs once a week and once every 6 weeks or so I do high rep squat/leg press workout. Volume training your quads is mandatory for size. During the regular weeks I rarely ever drop below 6 reps and always squat ass to calves. These are high bar squats with a shoulder width foot stance. I keep good posture and minimize waist bend.

In the high rep week (after warm up) I will alternate workouts between 3 X 135 X 100 with 2 X 225 X 50.

If you're only doing low rep powerlifting squats you will end up with carrot shaped thighs.

Oh...and since this is GetBig....I bang porn stars and text message Nasser while I'm doing it.

my squat routine from back in the day no bull. 135 20 reps warmup. next set 225 40 or more reps, next set 315 by 25 or so 405 by 10 , 455 by 5 than  singles  with 505 lbs. now after 6 hip replacement surgeries i don't work legs much anymore.

I do heavy squats with hardcore high rep squats or sissy squats afterward.

Nothing feels better than being humbled by tiny ass weights, but WORKING hard for it as well. Big difference between the pussies that just lift tiny weights for puny reps and sets. 8)
