WHAT IS LOCKS OF LOVE?
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

You're lucky to have nice healthy hair that grows at a decent rate to be able to do that. Wish I did

From the front it looks pretty much the same because it still goes over my shoulders, but to me it is short! Over all I probably lost 12" in the back because they cut more than 10" off and then you have to cut more off so it doesn't look like a hack job. She tried to leave as much length as she could but in January I will go back and it will have grown enough back that I can get it trimmed a little better. I was originally going to get about 5" off and then someone *coughstellacough* mentioned locks of love and I looked and that is 10" minumun so what is another 5"? My hair was down to my waist And has never been this "short" since the 5th grade. Eh, it's just hair, it'll grow back and change can be good! Plus think of the bald little red haired girl I am going to help!

By the summer I will have about 3-4" inches back I think, and by the end of next year it will be considered long again (but will take about 2 years to get close to where it was!)

Since I got it done yesterday afternoon I haven't washed it yet, I think I am afraid too because it will be so weird I think I might cry.

It's when you turn over to squeeze the extra water out at the end of the shower that it feels so weird when you get a lot cut off.

I bet it looks beautiful.

Way to go Flower! Hair loss can be devastating to women, ...especially little girls.
You did a wonderful thing, ...and yes, ...it will grow back. It'll take some getting used to, but once you do, you'll be thrilled at how much easier it is to manage & style, ...andinside you'll know you made a big difference in a little girl's self esteem & confidence.

Try losing your hair for the rest of your life with no possibility of the hair coming back...as many men do. I know women can lose theirs as well, but losing it for men is like cutting his balls off if he doesn't know how to handle it. Hence toupees, transplants, plugs, hair in a spray can, and whatever else is out there to con someone.

It's not as "bozo-red" as it was when I was younger! Sometimes it looks more strawberry blond.

that is a wonderful and amazing thing you did.

I don't have anywhere near the courage to do what you just did.

Some little girl is going to be so happy for what you did.
That is one of the most unselfish things I have ever known anybody to do.

I love my long hair, as most of us do, but I don't have your convictions, nor anywhere close to your courage
It was truly an altruistic thing to do.

It will grow back, right now I am kind of annoyed with it, but I think in a month or so I will be ok.

Hair loss can be traumatic for anyone at any age, ...but there's a big difference between grown men who understand male pattern baldness or otherwise, ...and little girls. We're talking adults vs children? C'mon. $:-\$

I'm trying to get customer to donate a stuffed bear or puppy for $9.99 so i can then drop them off to a kids foundation or hospital. Kids suffering kills me.
