its amazing what you can do with torque huh?

Italians have no torque to properly exit the corners, or get off the line.

hell, the street/strip car i just finished dynoed at 1012 rwhp, and 1003 rwtq at 21 psi, and it still gets 20 mpg hwy on its street tune!!!

sometimes you gotta play with size and stroke to stay competitive.

About 8 yrs ago, I was watch a ALMS race, and they showed pretty much a tutorial on torque vs high rev hp, the cars were a Panoz LMP race car with a 6+ liter V8 and a Audi R8 race car, which had a 3.5 liter turbocharged V8. In the corners the Panoz  caught up to the Audi, but when they hit the straight, the Adui was GONE! Just took off. Another example, is recently Autocar tested the Caddy CTS-V vs the M5, of course the Caddy won, but when it came to going past the 1/4, the M5 high rev engine had it iching back up and passing the Caddy.

But that Gumpert Apollo is insane. Insane looking, and I don't think that car is even street legal here.

Although to give Magnus credit, the upcoming Enzo replacement is rumored to have 900 hp and weigh about 2,200 pounds, rumored I said.

How many Daytona 500's has a Ferrari won
How many Brickyard 500's has a Ferrari won
How many Nascar Races has Ferrari won

And I love Ferrari's and Porsche's and used to drive one everyday, but your analogy was all wrong.  And I have had 2 66' Mustangs an 86' 5.0 convertible and a 67' Firebird convertible and 77' Trans Am Limited and a 69' Nova so I love American.  If I was to get another fast american car it would be another 67 Firebird or a new Chrysler 300 SRT.  I need more room and a bit more luxury now.
No Worries 4 me

Yep, and here is the most famous chase scene involving two of my favorites cars, the 68 Mustang 390 and the 68 Charger
Bullitt, the chase scene that began all chase scenes

Filmed around SF and it's surrounding cities.
Look at how many hubcaps the VW Beetle loses, or how many times they pass that same car in various angles. Lots of funny little trivia from that one scene alone...

...and as much as I love that Mustang (I have a 67 Fastback), that Charger would get up, run and hide, chase the Mustang back down and run circles around it taunting it. The 390 Mustang (never officially known as that however) was far too front heavy with that motor in it, and it didn't breathe worth shit.

Learn how to speak English, first.  American muscle cars are not meant to handle. It's not what they are about.  The parameters that you speak of mean nothing to a muscle car fan, just as what makes muscle cars special means nothing to someone like you.  American muscle cars are meant to cruise, be fast in a straight line and are inexpensive compared to a Ferrari.

I drive a European car, so I have no axe to grind.  I know of an american muscle car that eats Ferraris from breakfast and always has, the gt40.

No, I didn't see it on Topgear, but I did see Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari Fxx in blitz the record, just to have it taken down.

Youngblood, yeah I failed to mention the situation with the Mustang and the Charger, how the Mustang had to have it's suspension redone just for the chase scene, but it still couldn't hold up, yet the Charger's did. To me, the Charger's true
contemporary competitor would have been a 67-68 or 65 Impala SS, big bodied like the Charger and Big Engined as well.

Body88, agreed. Although the Gt40, came into being because
Henry Ford II wanted Ferrari all to himself, Ferrari wanted to keep the racing side, since that was all he was really about. Had
Henry not been a typically American for the time, Ferrari might have been part of Ford, and the GT40 may not have existed. And the Mustang may have in terms of development and evolution, at this time been the equivalent of the M3.

You also didn't mention how the Charger slammed into a parked car just prior to the camera changing angles.
The Mustang also took out a camera stand around one turn, injuring the camera man on top of it. That turned proved to be quite difficult for many people. I think they tried three different drivers, and only after numerous takes did Mcqueen finally get the car around the corner successfully.
You'll also notice after one of the hill jumps, that he 'Stang comes down too hard, and you see a plume of black smoke for a brief second. This is the car bottoming out and smashing it's oil pan- which had to be rewelded while still on the car and warm from the scenes, because they were under a shooting deadline.
You can see a crane pull a fake Charger through the gas station after the car "crashed" and caused flames to erupt. DVD's made this part far easier to see than VHS!
Steve Mcqueen also tried to buy that very Mustang (one of two used for the scene) but when he went back to the studio the car was gone, reported to be on it's way to be a beer can :( . The car was never found...unless you count the bouncer at the door of a bar I used to play that claims the car is still in SF ::)

Fantastic cars, they don't make em like that anymore, the new one just aren't the same...

This Dodge is faster around The Ring than ANY Ferrari and in fact any Italian sports car  ;D

That car is pretty crazy, though they didn't like it on fifth gear and said the Corvette Z06 was better, which probably is the best American muscle car ever...it can do it all, power in a straight line, hang with European cars on a track and it's relatively cheap

When it comes to the ring, does the Dodge beat a Nissan GTR or a Porsche 911 GT3 ?

ok, but the panoz is naturally aspirated, and the Audi isnt. the longer the audi stays "in it" the more horsepower and torque its going to make due to the fact that turbos work with high RPM's.

throw a turbo, and forged internals on the panoz and see what happens ;)

Oh yeah the Viper ACR beats them easily 7:22.1 for the Viper
