american cars will never be as greats as german masterpieces
Corvette Z06 and ZR1 and the Viper Acr surprised the hell out the Euros. Plus the Viper had been winning it's class in Le Mans the Gt2 class from the 90's to the early 2000's. Then the Corvette GTRs took over, beating and besting Lambo's RGT, the Aston Martin DBSRs, Ferrari 550/575 GTRs, Saleens. So the Americans can make sports Cars, but there is a love affair with the muscle car.
One of the main reasons why American really lacks exceptional
sports cars is because in he 50's the marques had banned sports car racing or racing altogether, don't know why. But the Ford T-bird was spanking the hell out of the first gen Corvettes. In 1958 Ford made the T-bird a 4 place car, stating that there was no future for 2 seat sports cars. Well, they sealed the T-bird's fate. The Corvette went on to evolve into a world beater and the T-bird no longer exists. And there is the other reason why America's sports cars don't do so well, piss poor upper management who have no forethought, or are only interested in the bottom line.
Funny thing is, the Fords in Europe handle far better and are of a better quality than their counterparts here. Ford of Europe has better or higher standards. And so does GM's Euro arm, Opel.
