What do you all take for supplements? and beyond...

Just curious to see what everyone on here regularly takes and why...

other then BCAA's and whey/egg albumen protein I usually take:

multi vitamin - good for all around health
alpha lipoic acid R+  - anti oxidant
gaba - to help with sleep issues
glucosamine - joint health
vitamin C - it's winter, for flu prevention, etc.
flax seed oil caps/omega 3.6.9 oil caps - overall health


lately I've been taking melatonin (oral spray version - 1.5mg per spray) but it's been giving me weird side effects
next morning at work my memory's all fuzzy, feel groggy for half the day and get weird dreams on it..anyone else have similar side effectS?

Why do you say that? I don't know too much about the different types of oil, I've taken fish oil caps before (I believe cod or something) what's their significance ?

This a favorite question of mine. I have spent a lot of time researching. Despite all that has been written and said, I believe that fish oil gives the most bang for the buck. Essential fatty acid's fall into the group known as long chain omega 3's. These long chain omega 3 fats are EPA and DHA. Fish oil contains these two acids-in that specific form. EPA and DHA are the only form of essential long chain omega 3 acids that the body can use.

Flax, borage, etc, do not contain EPA and DHA. Instead they contain both omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Our normal diet already gives us an over abundance of omega 6 fats versus omega 3 fats.

The problem with flax is that it contains short chain omega 3 as well as omega 6 fatty acids. The conversion is not very efficient, our bodies convert only a very small fraction of short chain omega 3 into long chain omega 6.

In my opinion that shit is the devil. It also gives me weird dreams & makes me feel hungover for half the day.

I've heard some people report switching to Melatonin because they experience vivid/crazy dreams with GABA.

Out of curiosity, how's the GABA working out for you?

sheesh  ::) what a complicated answer  ;D

For the winter, cod liver oil would be an okay choice.  More and more evidence is pointing towards the fact that we're very deficient in vitamin D (even in those living in sunny climates).  Cod liver oil is a good source for D.

I don't know, I usually take a handful around 8pm, like 4-5 caps... can't say I've really noticed it doing anything.. I'm still trying to work something out with the melatonin, I have insomnia issues (since high school) and it takes a lot of sleep meds/benzodiazepam's to put me out, which sucks cause I have to be at my office by 9-10 am the next morning and I like waking up around 11, LOL.. so usually around 8pm I start taking GABA and melatonin by the handful's.. it's either that or a bunch of xanax, ativan or immovane

It really sucks not being able to sleep, my sleep cycle is like 4+ over normal people, I usually can't fall asleep till 1-2 am

& now to answer the initial question. I take the following:

5 fish oil capsules
1 multivitamin
1 coral calcium
2 trace mineral tablets

& my homemade NO drink on training days
& a little protein powder from time to time
