I have noticed that wherever I travel
particularly in  deep south
news anchors/reporters do not speak with southern accents
they have a neutral, kind of northeastern accent
or none really at all

could it be because southern accent makes one sound dumb?

speak on this
stupid not dumb

Actually newscasters have more of a neutral midwestern accent.....definetly not northeastern.

And glad to hear all you homo's don't like them......I've actually had compliments on my accent from women, both US and overseas.....can any of you studs say that?  8)

or go to a NASCAR race in the south - Maryland is not south by the way

you need to go DEEP south...........charlott e and blAcktlanta dont count

you need to venture from the big cites and go grass roots..........now here in hickory EVERYONE has an accent even my parents

I grew up in NY so I dont have one and get shit every once in awhile but for the most part every fck around here has an accent

parents are from southern virginia and that shit is outta hand - southern and cajin mixed together or something

Baltimore is the first major southern city you get to. But it has a weirdness to it, because it's mid Atlantic. That's one of the reasons why they filmed the show Homicide in Baltimore. Plus, there is a slight southern twang, especially when they say "hon".

Virginia although, the jewel of the south, it actually quite progressive in the northern part. That is considered part of the Washingron dc area, otherwise known as Bethany Howlett territory. Got family in both  SE VA and NC, and yeah they are south, most of the people in the cities don't speak with a southern accent. And it could be that many of those people are not from there.
But, yeah the Mason-Dixon line denotes N and S., so technically MD is South.

I moved to SC from Italy for college 3 years ago and I have to say I didn't notice that my accent had changed but my parents and relatives are always correcting me and asking me to repeat myself.  Accents are contagious if you live around them long enough.

AND another thing i noticed. when i was doing Olympic shooting, we used to live in colorado at the Olympic center every summer. all of the douchbags from Texas with "southern accents" made these "accents" even thicker once they got to another state or country.

this also leads me to believe that southern accent are more-or-less.....BULLSHIT.

I knew this blonde in high school that was from SC, but raised up in MD, on trips to Tenn, she would have the thickest, fakest accent, we all hated, but we like her boobs more. Chick was built like the true red brick shithouse. She look like a damn dollface. But that accent sounded and looked like it was coming out of a babydoll's mouth, like "Mom-Ma"

i know, the shit is horrible. i have actually ended relationships over that.

its not even the southern accent. i was dating a mexican girl for awhile (should have married her), and she barely had a accent...but you get her around a large group of people and you couldnt understand the bitch.

Accents are cool. We get
ESPN outdoors and I love
Bill Jordans accent.

Not so much the new
Hollywood speak adopted
by airheads all over.

"I was like, you know ahw my God, you
know and he went like yes like i KNOW whatever you know"

Stupid girls next door and Kardashian
shysters, we should melt them and make
fuel to power our V8's and save the environment
this way.
