India and China have a ton to loose with a climate agreement.  They have an expanding economy and this global agreement disproportionally penalyzes countries with large economies.  Looks like China refuses to play ball.
Looks like we will be agreeing to heavily contribute to a 100billion dollar per year lump sum to Africa and Pacific Islands (and other coastal or island nations) to help them build walls, help them develop green technology and help their economy.

Is any one else uneasy about giving other countries huge lump sums of money in the name of preventing climate change?  It's one thing if all contries have an agreement to limit or reduce emmissions but in a recession, why the hell are we promising more money to the world?

I absolutely think the U.S. should pull back some with aid to other nations.  We are constantly trashed for this or that, let's start drawing back on aid internationally.

BodyPro, even with all those tax dollars wasted on the conference & travel, it appears the U.S. is going to be one of or the largest donor in a 100 billion dollar per year aid campaign to other countries to help them with global warming, develop green technology and their economy.  Does this administration care about what is happening in the U.S. with jobs, the recession, long term economic growth, falling monetary values, more wasting our tax dollars?  This makes me sick.

I agree with moving forward with greener technology if done correctly but not if we are massively subsidizing other countries and crushing our own economy.  I can't wait till the liberals are out, I just hope they don't cause too much long term economic damage.
People pleded with Bush to stop excessive spending and then this is what we get?  No $ limit Obama, even worse.  We must put the brakes on all government in 2010!

If the gov was strategically spending money (or giving incentives) for American companies to invest in newer energy technologies, that would be much more palatable than giving blind sums of money to upcoming nations and enacting cap & trade/tax policies.  This is backwards and will absolutely hurt the American people and the economy.

Obama to meet with 'offended' Chinese premier
The Times ^ | 12/18/2009 | Sam Coates

Posted on Friday, December 18, 2009 12:32:38 PM by markomalley

UK diplomatic sources confirmed there had been a major setback after China took huge offence at remarks by President Obama over the need to independently monitor every country carbon emissions.

In his speech President Obama said: "Without any accountability, any agreement would be empty words on a page" - remarks the Chinese interpreted as an attempt to humiliate them, prompting Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to return to his hotel.

President Obama will now hold a second round of talks with Mr Wen in an attempt to patch up the disagreement.

Everyone thinks China and India are blind to this.  They aren't.  China spent 34% of it's stimulus money on green technology investment.  They understand the future but they just don't want to be apart of any unilateral agreement.  Simple as that.  Soon they will be the ones exporting green tech all over the world and it'll be a huge boost to their economy whilst we piddle our time away drilling for oil that no one will care to use in 50 years time.

Barack Obama's speech disappoints and fuels frustration at Copenhagen (ROFL!)
The Guardian ^ | 12/18/2009 | Suzanne Goldenberg and Allegra Stratton

Posted on Friday, December 18, 2009 10:12:36 AM by PreciousLiberty

Barack Obama stepped into the chaotic final hours of the Copenhagen summit today saying he was convinced the world could act "boldly and decisively" on climate change.

But his speech offered no indication America was ready to embrace bold measures, after world leaders had been working desperately against the clock to try to paper over an agreement to prevent two years of wasted effort — and a 10-day meeting — from ending in total collapse.

Obama, who had been skittish about coming to Copenhagen at all unless it could be cast as a foreign policy success, looked visibly frustrated as he appeared before world leaders.

You realize your sources are all right wing biased right?  A lot of what they say 'oh this person was visibly angry' or so and so looked shocked etc is all hearsay.  Without actual comments and quotes from the leaders it's just hearsay.  For a lawyer i thought you would be more discerning in your reading of such things.

You do realize that hearsay is a legal term applicable in a court of law?  What's next, you'll be asking that everybody show a "chain of custody" for their evidence to back up articles?  ::)

Oh so i can not use it in real life i take it.  So evidence being a legal term is now un-applicable in every day life including articles?  So now what we just have words with no conclusion or evidence to back it up.  Just baseless claims all around? Great stuff skip. You should write for fox news  ;D

Like i've told you 333 and many others.  I have never seen Al Gore's movie nor do i particularly want to. It is not partisan, it has obvious bias and i would rather get the facts from the scientists themselves, not a failed presidential candidate with the personality of a rock.

Absolutely kc, I'd rather hear scientists debate the issue, not political puppets.  Gore disgusts me, he has politicized this issue, profited, and helped turn it into a circus.

The main problem I see at Copenhagen is smaller countries are using the conference as a soundboard to criticize and try to garnish money from the economically productive countries.  That and there are a whole bunch of extremists there that are making this a circus.

I don't blame China either, I wouldn't want to give billions to help developing countries develop green technology and help their economies.  What we probably need is something like a G20 group to get together and have a reasonable agreement about cutting overall emissions...and a thorough review of the science of man made CO2 causing climate change.

The problem is "there soon" is pretty pathetic. Japan has got the jump on them, China can't even produce cars that are crash worthy. Also they steal intellectual property, but what they are trying to do, like India is grab up Euro carmakers because they don't have the technology or platforms...it's cheaper
