Toxic, yes there is some of this kind of thinking in the people, but it didn't start with Obama.  There seems to be some strange need in the people to worship.  You see it in so many areas of daily life all over the world.  People always seem to elevate normal people to some higher status and worship.  By far Obama wouldn't be the first president some people did this with.

We can start with this. The President  nor congress has the constitutional authority to either fire a CEO or take over another company (GM, Chrysler)...yet they did. Want more?

Is there anything in the Constitution preventing the government from buying into a corporation?  To my knowledge there isn't.  And, as 60% stakeholders in the company, the president has every right to fire the CEO.

I hate the stimulus and think it's wrong.  But, they took the bailout, the government took the shitty stock, and the government is well within it's rights.

Don't want the government firing a private company's CEO's?  Then file for bankruptcy and let the chips fall where they may.

To my knowledge, it's perfectly constitutional for the government to invest in private companies.  In fact, the government buys stock in financial institutions.

As for his other statement, I think he was just being facetious.  Who knows.

It's more than just a religious style worship.  The word worship won't point to all the worshiping that goes on by people.  You see people who have gained an adoration for a person who the "believe in"  They simply have faith in them and take that to a level of trust and admiration which is in essence faith and worship.  You see people do that all the time and especially where people are thought to be working in some way for the people against evil forces.  The republicans just got done playing up the bad guy anti people image for 8 years.  It doesn't shock me that you're going to find this quality in some people behind Obama.  I witness them doing it in one way or another all the time.  Look at our society.  It's so savior oriented it's stupid.  Superman or most superheros that we love are all around a savior ideology.  It's so in the American psyche it's silly.  They even do it for celebs.  Celebs are on almost a royalty level in this country and the adoration goes to far many times.

if you don't like govt involvement, then you don't have to take the free cash.  The moment you abandon the tenets of capitalism and walk into Congress with your hat out, then yes, the govt suddenly gets some say in how you manage that money.  Cause without it - there's nothing to stop you from just splitting the free $ up between the top execs and coming back in a month complaining you're still broke.
