Flex Sep 1996
Three weeks after his Night of the Champions triumph Flex Wheeler gave us the following skinny on his Olympia prep: " The blunt truth is that I don't think anyone can't beat Dorian [ Yates ]. He is a true fucking warrior who puts his shit on the line like no one else. It's hard to get a guy who will go to the wire - Dorian will give up whatever he has to [ in order ] to keep what he has. I will fight for the Olympia, but, realistically, it wont happen. So I'm focusing on second place-place slot.
" I'm sending a message to Kevin [ Levrone ] ' cause he sent me one about not doing the San Jose show. The message is that it's time for Kevin to stand down from the number two spot, because it doesn't belong to him - it's my slot. It was mine in 93, and I'm coming back to reclaim it.
Kevin needs to make arrangements to find another place to live. After the Arnold result [ a bitterly disappointed Flex finished a controversial second to Levrone ], I want to prove a point and put things right between Kevin and me. Kevin's gonna be pissed ' cause of all the negative stuff going his way since the Arnold, so I'm sure he's gonna be fired up, although I think he's on to much of a size kick. That'll be to my advantage. I was 230 for the Night of Champions: for the Olympia, I'll be even sharper at around 235-237.
And I really want to put Nasser [ El Sonbaty ] in his place, 'cause he's gotten so arrogant thinking he's the next Mr Olympia. I'm like, nah! It's gonna be a war - to make the top seven is gonna be hell! Last year started well for me and then disintegrated. This year, I'm just getting better and better. They expected me to burn out by May, but I was better then I was in March. I'll be even better by September.
