the displacement tax is much lower for diesels, so this whole dumbass system which is supposed to be enviromentally friendly (the gov tell us) actually favours very old 2-4litre diesels without particle filters. Organisations like NAF (ADAC/AAA), SINTEF (largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia)protest and say the system is crap, and that it causes for a lot more pollution, the government make their own surveys and pollutin readings, and stand completely arrogant on the side. Last month they were out saying they were wrong, and NAF and SINTEF were right in that 1 litre of diesel pollute a lot more than 1 litre of petrol....as a result they raised the fixed diesel taxes with €0,02/litre (too reduce emissions) It's almost like entrapment when you concider that after these new taxes from 2007, 70% of all new cars sold were diesels because the politicians scared the people with horrible petrol taxes..and then after sales raise the diesel tax

for me the noise a car makes is such a big part of it, that an electric car will NEVER appeal to me like cars with internal combustion engines. No matter the benefits, as long as the electric sports cars sounds like bumper cars or subway trains, or makes no sound at all.

Try watching the car chase from Bullitt with mute on while switching on some electric kitchen appliances.


Btw, I've almost been run down three times on my bicycle by soundless electric cars in Bergen...mostly driven by assholes who like to seem trendy by saving the planet or crazy environmentalists who think the ocean will rise 100m next year if we don't stop polluting by thursday.  Razz to them I say F*** YOU and F*** your electric car! yes, I'm with you on that, and I adore the constant development both with engines using less fuel and being more efficiant in general. But from my point of view it is because of the tax system in Norway. For every new invention and new prototype fuel efficient engine, the normal motorist is severely punished with taxes here. It is just a matter of time before the government here will tax normal cars with normal internal combustion engines to supercar prices, given that there are electrical cars available. There's even been talk about banning newsales of normal petrol and diesel cars by 2015. Yes, 6 years from now. Only alowing biodiesel, hybrids and other alternative fuels before banning the internal combustion engine for good some years later. The method of changing the country's carpark is by TAX, and by TAX only.

does these people in the government think electric cars generate their own electricity? It has to come from somewhere, and if everybody drives electric cars the hoseholds electric bill will skyrocket. Especially in a cold country like norway where we need a lot of heating in the winter. So unless all the electricity el-cars need come from waterfalls and windmills, the total energy need will still need power generated by coal and fossile fuels.....it's just shifting the end product for the user. Instad of the user burning fossile fuels for energy, the power plant will do it for you, and give you electricity in return.

There's also another aspect....have the designers of electric cars ever driven in scandinavia? Freezing cold temepratures that often freeze batteries solid, high mountains and crappy roads. You will never get nowhere close to the milage in an elecric car here. An where are you going to charge it?....on a 200km mountain pass? Or in some long ass fjord? It's difficult enough to find petrolstations some places as it is. In Norway we need petol and diesel cars and trucks. No arguement, but because of all the new inventions with electric cars, we will continue to be taxed crazy, and we dont need that. New small engines no extras VW passats already cost mercedes s class money here.

The government here has it's mind set that is is us, the norwegians all 4,5mill of us, are the reason the planet is going down the drain, but if we pay tax for it, the world will shine tomorrow. It's like the catholic church in the middle ages and purgatory for f***'s sake.
