Oh, sure there was. The colonialist/military vs. blue people was a none-too-veiled Imperialist vs. Native Peoples. Pretty ham-handed. That and the idea that these blue people have a great 'spiritual' connection to the land that the Imperialists would be wise to heed (a timely nod of the head to the Green movement). Maybe, I'm getting cranky in my old age but I just want escapism when I see a movie. I don't like to be lectured, especially with some sociology 101 stuff.

right on target. thanks for saying it better than i could with my shitty broken frenglish.
Can you imagine the degree of brainwashing some people endured to not even being able to see what you and i (and some others) see. Can you imagine how deeply it must affect children  when you can see "adults" in their 20 / 30s cannot even understand what they re feeding with anymore.
That's what happen when most people spend hours a day since decades behing their TV screen.

I saw it pretty quick but the effects were awesome so just enjoyed the movie. I just tried to think a movie has got to have some plot and this is what it is.

The best line i read was how ironic is it that they are using technology to tell us technology (and technological advances) is bad.

How is that anti-white? None of that jumps out and screams 'anti-white'. Anti-imperialism, sure. Anti-white? No. I'm guessing most people will see it as more of an environmental movie than anything.

Methinks you're looking too much into a blockbuster movie. Either way, Cameron stole the whole movie from a novella written in the 50s.
Well, most people would see Imperialism as primarily White and most, more probably, as British, given recent history. You seem very defensive about it being seen as 'anti-White.' Odd.

Amazing movie, I was crapping on it in the other thread as a joke... seriously, everything Cameron's touch has been spectacular... he has the midas touch.. his record speaks for itself..

Aliens
the Abyss
Terminator 2
Titanic

etc.

Don't forget the original Terminator, awesomely raw and gritty, not cheesy, and all done on a low budget. Kudos for recognising The Abyss.

I'm amazed no one has an Avatar avatar yet.  Who will be the first?

Visually spectacular. Narratively craptacular.

How can they put so much money into the technology of a movie and then sabotage it with some of the most moronic dialogs and storylines ever. Would it really have been that expensive to hire a decent writer?

I'm not being defensive. I just don't see it. It struck me as more of a green movement, "connect with mother nature" type of movie than anything. Most of the movie was about him finding himself and his connection to the planet.

The last Fast and Furious had the most moronic, cliched dialog ever. I knew what they were say before they said it.

honestly the movie was a turd

but then again this film has been hyped up for the past two years, so I probably went in with extremely high expectations

Cameron knows how to hype up a movie.

People watch Camerons movies no matter what, at least i do! :D

Hi Woten.

 ;D

PS - the noble Aboriginals in Canada didn't cut down trees because they were "in touch with nature"!!!  It had NOTHING to do with the fact that they didn't discover metal.  ::)

3/4 of the movie involves the guy running around the forest finding himself and connecting with nature.

I think I'll do my part to combat this "vile" movie by seeing it again this week.

If you call Avatar manipulative or brainwashing or whatever, then every damn movie is just that... ::)

every damn movie is just that, hope this helps, starting with cartoons. I hope you didnt JUST realize that everything you see, hear shapes your brain, your personality and cognitions. Looks like you need a psychology 101 class.

Never forget some people see XxX fast and furious and star wars and find in these things the answers to all their questions. Watching a movie is like discussing with someone or reading someone's book; there's an interaction between your thoughts and those promoted in the product or character. The only problem with TV and movies is that you DO NOT PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY, you re just told, shown, what to think without any feedback from you required.
The main danger with movies and TV is that people really believe they re not BRAINWASHED , when in fact they are, especially because it's a passive activity that dont involve any action or REFLEXION. It's very close to what we call addictions. Addiction to being brainwashed.

There's a pattern here; people who are addicted to drugs, like people who are addicted to being brainwashed,  WILL BOTH TELL YOU THEY ARE NOT ADDICTED. Says it all.

Tribal people are NOT "in touch with nature".  They didn't create pollutive technology because they were not smart enough to create such technology, not because they had any intention of preserving nature.

Read this:

This "noble nature lover" stuff is complete myth. Geologically speaking, the INSTANT the Indians arrived over the Bering Strait, mass extinctions off all kinds of exotic megafauna began. Ancient horses, camels, big cats, elephants, giant sloths.

Well said!

Now the low intelligence of Aborigines which resulted in them not being able to create technology is being looked at as a good thing!  LOL!!!!!!!!!  Oh yes, they didn't discover the wheel because they were "in touch with nature".  It had nothing to do with the fact that they were unable from an intellectual perspective to create those things.  And Europeans used to be "in touch with nature" too - in the stone age!

Enough with movies produced by millionaires bashing "greed" and western civilization please.

I'm not painting the Aborigines as anything as they, and this green/anti-imperalist movement, don't mean shit to me. And I doubt it means shit to most of the people who saw the movie. It was entertaining, had incredible graphics and that's that.

No one is forcing you to watch it. This movie just broke $1 billion in worldwide gross. Must sting.

Ok that is a fair outlook on things and I can't say I disagree.

I just thought that maybe Avatar didn't support your opinions or political stance and that's the reason you were harsh on it.

Again, some people , especially young ones watch this religiously and copy everything they see and reproduce it in their attitude and behaviors in their everydaylife.

Even adults watching soaps every evening do the same, and try to act like their favorite characters, the ones they identify themselves with -and it was the main goal of the scenari and characters creation in the first place-. The final purpose is always the same; get people addicted to something , a product, to make money out of it as much as possible. Wether it's a movie, soap , documentary, car, shaver, food etc.

It has a massive impact on the minds of a lot of people.  Most people believe the myth of "the noble Indian medicine man" because of movies like this.  It's just anti-white slander.  If James Cameron cares so much about the environment and thinks greed is bad, perhaps it would be best if he gave all of the money he made from this movie to international aid and live in a shack.  I'm not sure if this information is up to date, but you get the point:
