Hopefully. I know the guy from "Gladiator," Russel Crowe I think, did the same thing for his role in "The Insider." He had to put on 80lbs or something in order to fit his role.

A lot of what you saw on screen in 300 was computer generated, highlighted, filtered or redefined. Which can make a guy with a fairly good body (which Butler had) look like Mr Big Stud of 2010.. Maybe not all drugs but excellent computerized film production, giving every actor in the flick the cut abs and outstanding look. Even simple shad or black and white lighting and angle can make any one appear more outstanding than in normal lighting. An art that some GB'ers might learn before posting pictures at their "best".

Gerard Butler was in shape and quite muscular when 300 was filmed, but not anywhere near the level that he appeared as in the movie. A lot was airbrushing, 3d effects, lighting, etc.


But of course he did let himself go a lot.


I think Gerard Butler would make a GREAT action hero if he had maintained and improved his physique even beyond 300. That was what made him popular. His action hero persona and physique. With it gone...He's losing his asset.
