Afghanistan
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:52:22 AM »

Back in the 1980s, the US backed the Afghan Muslim rebels--the Mujahadeen--against the Soviet Union. When the pro-Russian government of Afghanistan fell to Muslim fundamentalists, Russia invaded and was bogged down by rebel attacks. The US made sure that this continued for as long as possible.

Now, in 2010, it is the US fighting the same forces that it formerly supported. Strange change of plans.

Yes but I'll give you a hint: a BB board is not exactly the place where you want to set a wake-up call for humanity. Getbig the least. HTH.

It's not really a point of view, those are plain facts most people know unless they're willingly blind. A point of view would be if you gave us your analysis of those facts.

are you pointing out the irony or making a deeper point?

global politics is all about timing and opportunity! the timing and opportunity was there during the cold war to stick it to the Russian and so we used the Afghans as fodder.

now we need to keep spending and justify the billions of the military budget and also distract the general populous and so we use the Afghans as fodder.

we prefer it when you if you stick to posting pics of whores that you pay to be your girlfriend for the night.  Are you in the US yet, I will buy you a drink.

I still remember the happy look on their faces when they're holding those brand new Stinger missiles.

QFT. And it worked beautifully. One of the main reasons USSR collapsed was how they got trapped in Afghanistan. Not the only one but it had a massive impact.

Yes the American meddlers built, trained and armed the very man - OBL - that they now seek to destroy.

Also, look how they interfere in Iraq; for many years it was the Iranians they seek to destroy and so they made Saddam - a Godless man - by arming him and CIA giving him intelligence against the Iranians.

Funny that the American government built up these factions only to try to dismantle. In the process killing thousands of innocents and leading to the deaths of their own people, people they force to fight their immoral wars.

umm..though out the course of human history those with power have and will continue to use their power to dictate the actions of those with less power.

this happens locally and on a global scale. It it as if you guys have read a book recently and are now enlightened to "global affairs".

This kind of shit happened 4,000 years ago as well  :-\

HAHA It's a shame that America do it so badly then. In Vietnam the Americans retreat and come back in shame and defeat to the whoops and cheers of the unbeaten Vietcong. In Iraq they cower inside the green zone too terrified to venture out.

America said they would get Bin Laden and even failed to get him, he mocks and taunts them daily.

America is only successful at dropping bombs and killing civilians. When it comes to "on the trenches" warfare you've failed every single time and the world sniggers at your Keystone Cops attempts to conquer.

Everything America does backfires and ends in yet more humiliation for this glass-jawed "champ" ;D

see, this is where you are wrong, you are looking are thing from a myopic point of view!

1. bombs are cheap, the media fallout from soldiers dieing is expensive, and so we use what is cheapest.
2. The goal(s) in Iraq were oil fields and expanding the military budget and try to jump start a slowing economy.
3. Keeping bin laden alive is good for America, he gives us a single focal point. When he ceases to be useful in that capacity he will be "captured".
4. Vietnam was a shit hole, is a shit hole and will continue to be a shit hole. Yet, the army can use it as a  battle cry.

I am bored explaining simple subterfuge to you.

I'm European and far from being pro-American, but what about the US interventions in both World Wars? And people seem to forget what the Cold War was and how little options they were. Sure, the Us fucked up in Vietnam but was it a good thing? Did the vietnamese people's wish truly granted? Even so, was it for their good?

I think it's interesting to note, and often overlooked, where the Taliban gets their funding. Many rish Muslim Arabs support them financially.

Then the Taliban takes that money, makes car bombs, and blows up other Muslim civilians. So, following a path of simple logic, it is plain to see that many in the Gulf region support the murder of Muslim civilians in Afghanistan.

Just an observation.
