Yep horrible situation but I feel as sorry for them as I feel sorry for the people frozen in time in Pompei - I just don't understand people that feel sorry for people that they never meet and have zero relations to, to me you guys are a bunch of prententious hippies.
As I said, horrible situation and yep very unfortunate that it had to hit one of the poorest countries, but I still don't feel sorry for anybody in haiti.  ???

The opinions posted in Getbig are very different than what the average person posts in Facebook, Stark - you know that. No one is bawling their eyes out, but I'm sure some people are being real when they feel sorry for the poor bastards. Again, not to the extent where they need counseling, but enough to express sympathy and / or perhaps make a donation for the victims.

Death and disaster are commonplace. And the reaction of people toward them always runs the whole gamut, with a few actually getting some kind of pleasure out of the victims' misery, to a few on the other end of the scale who really get upset, to the majority who are saddened to an extent and do something about it, be it making a post about it or whatever.

Sure, some people use it as an excuse for attention whoring, but there are also others who actually do something about it. Not all of the latter are pretending or putting on a show.

Practically every country goes through a disaster in some form or another. In most cases the affected are the poor who were already struggling anyway.

Never could understand how someone can get pleasure from the suffering of another.

Yep. We've all gotten desensitized to a fair extent, from being constantly bombarded by / exposed to stuff like that in the media all the time. And we've all got a lot more on our plates and things to think about or occupy our minds with, than people did say 100 years ago, when this same disaster would have invoked a much more emotional response. Honestly, what can you do? At best you can make a donation, but you can't let it stop you from living your life.

That's just the way things are. But that doesn't mean no one cares or that anyone who seems to care is pretending to attention whore or get appreciated or whatever. Everytime I check the comments the average person makes in Facebook or any other forum where you've got to be PC, I still grin when I think what kind of comments the same post or topic would elicit in Getbig.

As for the people who get pleasure from it - that's a whole different topic, lol

Matt likes to remind people of how superior he is to them, as he feels it otherwise might go unnoted...truly the mark of a superior class.   ;D

Too bad uberman09 doesn't own a cell phone, he could text $10 to the Red Cross right now just by texting "Haiti" to 90999.   :'(

A truly superior class would have no need to remind others of their superiority.
People masquerading as superior on the other hand............... ;D

the ability to feel  compassion and extend help to anyone (human or animal) outside our immediate family is an evolutionary and biological mistake, but one that sets us apart as a superior species.  It is what makes humans redeemable, if that is at all possible. (If there is a GOD it is probably the trait he is most proud of.)

On the other hand I think some people need to express more compassion to the people close to them.  It is easy to by hard when it comes to the people nearest us and kind and caring to people we have never met.  This is something I am guilty of at times.

It is interesting to wonder that if all those people were white and educated, would there be more compassion?

Of course, and little Matt C would be leading the righteous crusade without thinking twice.

I bet if he was man enough to open his cock-sucker in public his little twinky ass would get beat down. But that's why he stays at home and thrashes away at his keyboard.. looking up articles on Wikipedia about his glorious white heritage and lamenting about everyone else that's below him LOL. He seems to think that HE's a glorious conglomerate of everything awesome that white people have done since the beginning of time.

If I met him in real life I don't know whether I should beat the shit out of him or befriend him. If it were the latter, it'd probably be the first encounter with another human being, especially a visual minority, that didn't make him feel uncomfortable and long for the safety and refuge of his parents' basement.

That was a big part in the SS training - in germany we call it - Den eigenen Schweinehund überwinden, which means loosly tranlsated to jump over your own shadow and to not have pitty, feeling for others were seen as mistake and you were constantly reminded what the outcome would be if you start feeling for others.

so do you agree with that philosophy?  Doesnt sound healthy to me.

I also read that german parents in the early part of the century followed the advice of some doctor, who wrote a parenting book, that instructed them to make their kids feel embarrressed and shameful of their own sex organs and bowel movements.

Some believe this pratice led to easily trained and unfeeling SS soldiers.
