TA we all know BMI is bullshit and meaningless for muscular individuals.
It certainly is NOT bullshit.  250 lbs of muscle or 250 lbs of fat is going to be a lot of strain on a body structure not tall enough and with organs not big enough to compensate for the increased size.

Television viewing and childhood obesity.
Robinson TN.

Division of General Pediatrics and Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention, Stanford University, Stanford, California, USA. tom.robinson@stanford.edu
Children spend a substantial portion of their lives watching television. Investigators have hypothesized that television viewing causes obesity by one or more of three mechanisms: (1) displacement of physical activity, (2) increased calorie consumption while watching or caused by the effects of advertising, and (3) reduced resting metabolism.  Most of these studies have not tested directly the effects of reducing television viewing behaviors alone, but their results support the suggestion that reducing television viewing may help to reduce the risk for obesity or help promote weight loss in obese children. Finally, one school-based, experimental study was designed specifically to test directly the causal relationship between television viewing behaviors and body fatness. The results of this randomized, controlled trial provide evidence that television viewing is a cause of increased body fatness and that reducing television viewing is a promising strategy for preventing childhood obesity

Thanks for proving what I already said.

Nipping Childhood Obesity In the Bud

Obesity in children in the United States has been increasing at a shocking rate.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity among children ages 6-11 has more than doubled in the last 20 years.  The rate among adolescents, ages 12-19, has more than tripled, growing from 5% to 16%. (CDC 2007)  There are various contributing factors that cause obesity.  Most experts agree that nutritional habits and physical activity patterns are major factors contributing to the increase of children who are overweight or obese.  Children who are overweight or obese face many challenges in their youth which can carry on into adulthood if they remain obese, including heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.  The good news is that children who are overweight or obese can be helped and the problems related to them can be controlled and prevented.

While genetics and hormones can play a factor in childhood obesity, what children eat and how much is
a huge contributor to excess weight gain but also inactivity plays a role and the lack of school exercise programs does not help.  Some of the best ways to help fight childhood obesity has to start with the support of the entire family by eliminating the high fat high sugar foods that may be kept and replacing them with fruits and vegetables along with balanced smaller portions and most of all being loving and positive. It has always been my belief that children should not be restricted to a regimented diet, to me that is a sure recipe for failure.

Also, instead of sitting in front of the TV, computer or playing video games, make it a family affair and learn to be physically active; go for walks, bike rides plan family outings that encourages physical activities. Remember, it all starts in the home!

Too bad he didn`t pay attention to the BMI.  Perhaps his heart would not have had to compensate for the increased body size.

Coursey later said an autopsy had been conducted in Anderson and concluded that Adams died of cardiac arrest. "They already opened him up and looked at it," Coursey said, saying the autopsy was completed just after 12.30 p.m. Coursey added that Adams had an enlarged heart.

Bears' defensive end Gaines Adams died this morning after he was taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood, S.C., according to Greenwood County Coroner James T. Coursey. He was 26.

It remains unclear how or why Adams, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Clemson, died. An autopsy is expected.

The Bears' traded a second-round draft pick in the 2010 draft to the Buccaneers for Adams in October. He was expected to play a big role for the Bears next season.

Coursey said Adams appeared to be in perfect health. The Greenwood Sheriff's Office and the Greenwood County Coroner's Office.

The cause of death is believed to be a heart attack.

We will update this sad story throughout the day ...

TA you are such a fucking moron you make my hair hurt.

Does Reggie Bush or Peyton Manning look unhealthy to you?

Football players die younger than baseball players because (a) Football is a more dangerous sport that is way more stressful, violent and taxing on the human body-- Concussions, broken bones, damaged joints and ligaments, etc. (b) Football players have to be physically stronger than baseball players to compete at a high level and to prevent injury--- this necessitates more time in the weight room and more calories to prevent breaking down. (c) Most NFL contracts are NOT guaranteed $, which means guys in the NFL have a much shorter timespan to cash in on their athletic ability-- This means that guys in the NFL are a lot more likely to play injured, ignore physical problems, etc. in order to make bank.

There are about 20 other reasons I can think of--But see if any of that sinks in.

That tells me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Just about everyone us on here who trains with weights, plays sports, does cardio with any intensity has an enlarged heart. By your theory we should all be dead. Just because an athlete goes through a successful physical (pro's tend to have the most extensive screening) doesn't mean there is not something underlying. I'm not saying this is the here because 26 is too young but you never know.

The studies you provided and from what little I've read IS NOT from the physical activity from the sport it self but rather from not controlling their weight and realizing the ramifications AFTER retirement. I have a good friend that played in the NFL for 6 years who was 6'1 260ish and we discussed this and basically came to the same conclusion that when retired they didn't really know how to take care of themselves in the way if staying healthy. They were healthy during their careers because they were kept in check by league guidlines, but when it was over it was over. It was ultimately up to them to stay healthy.

BTW, this friend of mine is now down to about 230-40lbs healthy and has an extremely successful organization helping kids.

One of these days TA, you will realize that athletics is a huge driving force in the success and development in kids.
