The rear relaxed showed why nobody else was going to come close to Dorian.

flex himself said Yates was too much for him to handle. flex had the usual watery backside and the judges should have given ray 2nd (but having short legs, long torso and lacking on width probably did it :o)
Ray was a tad sharper than Flex in the glutes and hammies. But Flex's insane taper, his waist is smaller than Ray's or Lebrada's (in he video it's more apparent), and arm, and back detail put him over Ray.  If Flex showed up in his 93 Arnold condition it could be argued he should have won, but he would not have. The Mr. O is a freak contest, always will be. Flex had a chance to stop that and bring a diff era in, back in 98, and we all know what happened then.

no i did not take these pics. i used to work at a gym and one of the members hooked me up right after they came back from the show. i was at the 1991 and the 1995. unfortunately the camera but had not bitten me yet.

i have alot of pics from the 1991 that a get bigger here gave me (Rammer!)

im scanning some others now so you can see what Levrone looked like 5 months after pec tear.

Hey Delta, thanks for posting these.  I can't believe you saved all those pics I gave you.  I still have the negatives and I just got a negative scanner for Christmas so by coincidence I just went through all these negatives about 2 weeks ago.  Post some from 1991!  It was great going to an Olympia and sitting 4th row at the prejudging.  Too bad Labrada's big headed family sitting in front of me got in the way of a lot of pics...

this was when bodybuilding had a much higher caliber competitor, now maybe 2 or 3 people have a legitimate shot a mr. olympia crown. Back then 8-9 people were in the running and had a serious shot at taking it home

Yip it can be sometimes, i think in Yates case his ability to push on when things didn't go his way (Bicep torn, triceps, quad and shoulder injury's) IMO showed his Determination and Character just as much as his Physique @ times, i really do wonder how many of his Competitors would of still entered the Olympia in the Condition he did consistently... given the same situation's as all those injurys From 1994,95,96,97?

like I said in other post in regards to dorian,,, was never a fan of him,,, respected him but... might have been the tear or just his build in general but after seeing these threads lately,,, a new found respect has been gained.  I personally feel ronnie was better but,,, it can go either way... one thing is for certain they were both in leagues of their own.  and yes as mentioned above,,, to have all those injuries and to keep comming back let you know of his character as a person and as a champion.  he was in awesome shape,,, even towards the end. respect due.

RAY was always thin front to back (look at his fls) and he had the short leg long waist thing going on so structurally, it wasnt happening for him.

Not really. back then one guy always had a strangle hold on the Olympia title for as long as he wanted. The real competition was for 2nd place, and it was always the same guys, Nasser, Flex, Cormier, Ray and Levrone battling. Now days the Mr. O title is actually flip flopping and you have 4-5 guys all having pretty legit shots at winning. Don't get me wrong though, the overall quality of competitor was better back then compared to now.

He did keep doing them. Just switched the grip to overhand.
