Fedor praise - this needs to stop...
« on: January 19, 2010, 09:50:36 PM »
the constant fedor praise needs to stop, especially in ufc threads...
i dont care if you think he is the greatest fighter in the world or not
ufc threads need to stop being hijacked with these hypothetical matchups and outcomes vs fedor

i'm going to use an analogy to show just how idiotic the constant hype surrounding him is:

the ufc, for all extents and purposes, is the nfl of mixed martial arts
this is undisputable, they have the most events, the most marketing, and most widely watched in USA
they have the largest collection of talented fighters than any other organization

that is not to say some fighters in other leagues could not make it in the ufc
its simply stating the organization itself, collectively, has the most talent and is the premier organization

i'm not meaning to disrespect the other leagues either, but clearly ufc is on a whole another level

sorry, i'm going to make a second post because the screen is vibrating weird as i type, to be continued...

Your screen is probably vibrating because you are pounding the keyboard too hard writing your meltdown.

so consider the nfl playoffs are currently taking place
lets say there is a star football player playing in arena football league, or the cfl

i dont care if he's 4 times better than peyton manning its not worth mentioning in the context of the nfl playoffs because he is not competing in the premier football league

even if fedor is the most talented fighter in the world, his cherry-picked opponents and him running everything with his silly M-1 business and trying to call the shots is ridiculous. that sort of shit would never fly in the nfl regardless of how good the player is

its the equivalent of this quarterback, 4x better than peyton, saying he wants 50% of the NFL's revenue and he will only play in 8 of the regular season games then wants automatic superbowl berth

i have no problem hypothetically debating fedor vs random ufc fighter but hijacking every ufc thread with fedor hype is absolutely sickening

he had the opportunity to compete in the "NFL" but turned it down to be a diva and call all of his own shots. i cant think of any other athlete that has the luxury of doing this in a competitive sports league

so unless the thread is specifically refers to fedor or is a STRIKEFORCE thread nobody gives a damn how he compares to other ufc fighters because he isnt in the ufc

pretty good, thanks for asking

i dont have the money at the moment for the lessons now but i'm continuing to do the drills on my own and trying to condition my body with some cardio and light weight training

its only a hobby so once i have enough disposable income again to warrant more lessons i will get back in there and try to advance!

the bottomline of my previous posts:

if there was a gifted, talented football player who wasn't in the nfl but playing in the arena league BY CHOICE, mind you, BY HIS OWN CHOICE WHEN HE HAD THE OPTION TO SIGN AN NFL CONTRACT AND PLAY BY THERE RULES, football analysts wouldnt  mention this guy in every single breathe when they discuss the nfl

using this analogy it absolutely makes sense that fedor is irrelevant in the context of the most successful mma league in the world

i'm also surprised more people arent put off by his insistence of cherry picking his opponents and calling all the shots, not to mention the conflict of interest with his business ventures

i also hate how people use his success against FORMER ufc fighters (i.e. there is a reason they are no longer in the ufc) as a barometer of his success.

i like fedor and i like watching his fights, but i hate to see honest athletes competiting in the ufc legitly always have to be compared to him when he gets to call all of his own shots, its like a ufc champion being allowed to set his own fight schedule AND his opponents

so in summary, feel free to talk about fedor, but keep it in the strikeforce or fedor threads!

thats the beauty of it is you can start anytime

so many sports you lose your window of opportunity to play competitively after college  :-\

who cares if its trendy. its better than me sitting on the sofa getting fat eating chips wishing i had the opportunity to go back and play big time college ball. nothing is stopping me from being a championship caliber cage fighter except my own ability, whereas with football and stuff you have a limited window

I just don't want to invest the time into some trend that is already nearing it's end.  I'll wait till professional card shuffling gets big.

You are funny.

You obviously have been following MMA since TUF started and they began mass producing Tapout-wearing "fighters" and hyping them beyond belief. UFC as an organisation is the biggest and have some great divisions.

But you fail to understand that there was once called an organisation called Pride. They had some awesome fighters and their heavyweight division was far better than the UFC's. Fedor dominated that and fought a few UFC champs like Arlovski and Sylvia. They weren't washed up, they were after fighting Fedor. Those were long fights, weren't they?

Apart from a matchup with Brock Lesnar, Fedor's record speaks for itself. If you were a fan back then, you'd know why he is so respected.

I agree that the talk is bullshit, but he is no 1 until someone beats him.

you're write, i started watching MMA when Pride had already been brought out

i dont say he's not deserving of the respect but its silly to always hijack ufc threads with "fedor could beat (insert random ufc heavyweight fighter)

fedor had the opportunity to fight in the nfl of mma but declined

so really... in my mind he's irrelevant as far as the UFC is concerned

that said i have purchased several pride DVD's

even though i started watching after pride was dead, i still no quit a bit about pride fighting

i think fedor set a really bad precendent with that M-1 business though

i cant believe a fighter tries to call the shots like that and take command from league executives

he needs to be held accountable like any other fighter for who he fights when he fights them

i cant imagine any other fighter getting away with the crap he's pulling, and despite his past success i think what he's doing is tainting his resume and the end of his career will be recognized for what it is ... he is fighting cherry picked opponents on entirely his terms and that isnt write

Successfull UFC fighters: how successfull were they when they competed in PRIDE?
Successfull Pride fighters: how do they do now that they fight in the UFC?
How dominating was Fedor in PRIDE?
That answers all questions.
It's just a matter of money.
If they pay, Fedor will come over and proceed to do what he's done before.

You're an idiot. Fedor would have to give up his independence and earn less money than he is earning now to fight in the UFC. His image would ve controlled by Dana White, he wouldn't be able to do commercials in Asia - where he is unfathomably popular - without White's approval, wouldn't be able to fight in his native Russia without Dana getting most of his earnings, and then there's the champion's clause, which states that, if a champion keeps winning, his contract is automatically renewed whether he wants to remain in the UFC or not, but if he loses the UFC can drop him without notice. And above everything else, Fedor wouldn't be getting a % of PPV and ticket sales revenue like he does in Strikeforce where M-1 copromotes the shows. Going to the UFC would be an incredibly crappy deal for Fedor. Then, there's the fact that there are several great fighters outside the UFC, like Barnett and Overeem. Like many have pointed out, you're a kid who knows nothing but the UFC. Fedor is simply greater than the UFC. And the UFC is only popular in the U.S.

Bobby Lashley Talks About Fighting Fedor In 2010 (MMA)
By Michael Bluth
Jan 14, 2010 - 2:00:38 PM

Heavyweight fighter Bobby Lashley (4-0) says he wants to continue climbing the ranks in Strikeforce and is not rushing into a fight against Fedor Emelianenko. While Brock Lesnar was virtually rushed into a title fight in the UFC, Lashley tells SunSentionel.com that he wants to continue his slow build and get a few more wins under his belt before the fight of his life:

“When the fight comes with Fedor, which is going to be two, maybe three fights away, I will be definitely ready for him. It’s hard for me because when Brock (Lesnar) came in [to the UFC] Brock fought for the title after his second fight and everybody was [upset] about that. So I take a step back and say, ‘I’m going to take a different route.’ And I take my time and I have fights and everybody is like, ‘Why doesn’t Bobby fight Fedor?’ You can’t win for losing. There’s nothing I can do so I figure I’m going to do it the right way, and the way I know is the right way, and work my way up. I guarantee you I’m going to give the fans what they want. I’m going to be on this guy like he’s never seen before. So I’ll definitely put on a great show.”

nice to see some fresh anti-Fedor meltdowns  ;D

too bad it doesn't change one single thing.. Fedor is the most dominating and legendary fighter ever.. not to mention makes the most money too
