wavelength,

if a client is increasing their caloric intake to go from "diet phase" to "maintainence", how much should they increase a week (maximally) ?

of course, slow and steady would be the course of action to insure a smooth transition
I`d personally recommend not varying the two very much at all.

For instance, 2500 calories or so in a dieting phase, 2700-2800 in a maintenance phase and 3000-3200 in a gaining phase.

that would always be the ideal way to diet however, say this person dropped 500 calories below maintenance.

I, personally, think that going up 500 calories in one week would be a bit much (even though those 500 calories would bring them back to "Maintainance")

Oh in that particular case it won`t matter whatsoever.  Have them go up 500 in a week.  Nothing will change really.

I agree with TA, unless fulking (fat bulking) is attempted. Regarding how fast you raise your cals, if you already know the amount you need to take for bulking, IMO you can go right to it. I would usually raise slowly just because the amount could be different from what you think it should be. Adjust via feedback from rate of weight change resp. noticable strength vs. bodyfat gains.

awesome replies from TA and wavelength

i think (from the info above and my knowledge) slow and steady combined with feeling your body is the best determinate for how much to increase in a week

Of course nutrition factors in, regardless of weight.

You need protein and intense weight training to hold on to your muscle mass.

Bodybuilders (juicers or not) use very different diet methods. Some use more frequent meals, some less. Some follow a high carb diet, some a low carb or keto diet. Some try different, apparently opposing methods one after the other and have great success either way. A very small set of basic rules remains the same for all those successful methods.

Arent you the one who says you can eat anything on the diet and doesnt the above statement enforce that?  Yet now you say it does matter??

I don`t know a single High School football player that weighs 190 lbs ripped and could win a Natural Pro Card.

I dont know a single natural that wins a natural procard.   ;)
But seriously none of the people discussing these diets are doing it for show prep, theyre dieting to go from 185 to 160, and are no more muscular than a high school football player. Why bother bulking and dieting at that point anyway, just eat normal and they look the same either way.

..i get just under 1gm protein per lb of bodyweight

i am losing exactly 1 lb a week and in 4 weeks have not lost a single ounce of muscle(i measure bodyfat each week)

good thing because from the sounds of your post you dont have that much muscle to lose.

as a fitness professional, I can attest to validity of wavelength's and TA's nutritional advice

keep it simple and a calorie is a calorie (no matter what it's macronutrient profile is)

Every bodybuilder follows this diet. Different bodybuilders just apply different sets of additional rules.

Another guy to read up on-----"Mountain Man" formerly of bodyspace, now has his own forum.

no hate.

i just find it oddly amusing that all these sub 5'9, 160 pound mountains of muscle are so quick to dispense dietary advice, to bodybuilders nonetheless.

btw, if you truly think a calorie is a calorie you are sadly mistaken. edit: unless you enjoy walking around being roughly the size of the girls in the spin class at my gym.

How do you factor in wine when eating Adam?  I was going to experiment on the girlfriend with eating like this as she doesnt like to eat "clean".

Simple.  Just add and count the calories with the rest of the food.

that guy is a "natural" (haha)  BBer in his 30's that has been lifting weights for a lifetime, and a very good one at that. Pretty unfair to compare him to a high school senior.

The point being made is that you guys act as if you are 200lb ripped BBer's that carry so much muscle, and that your methods are truly revolutionary.

You guys are in the 160-180 range at 5'10-11".  of COURSE you are fucking lean after 3 months of dieting. i would hope so. YOU ARE SKINNY

Congratulations on having the willpower to stick with a caloric deficit long enough to get lean. do it at 200 or above lbs and then you will have me curious
