Post your best Fat burning workout

T-muscle had a good roundtable discussion this morning (http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/tmuscle_twitter_fat_loss_edition_vol_2) about this topic

so, inspired by said article, post some of your best fat burning excercises

now, instead of talking about the merits of Tabata protocol or 100m/400m/800m sprints (as i usually do), i'm gonna post something different that i have recently developed called "The Statue of David" workout            (/pretentious asshole)

I gave it that name because i know that this workout will (in addition to your normal weight workout and a sound diet) will help you achieve the proper "male aesthetic/young warrior" physique

Squat Clean Press x 30
Chirpee x 30
Kettlebell Clean Press x15+15 (15 reps one arm, 15 reps on the other arm)
Kettlebell swing x 30
Plyometric box jump x 30
One Armed Barbell Snatch x 15+15 (15 reps one arm, 15 reps on the other arm)
Dumbell Thruster x30
Medicine ball Jumping squat x 30
Tire Flip 200m's (back and forth hallway)

the whole workout is done as one huge circuit and repeated only once.
their is no "time limit"
you take your breaks whenever you need to but, ideally, you would do 30 reps and move to next excercise, 30 reps, next exercise, so and so forth.

I love this kind of stuff, but that looks really shoulder-exercise heavy.

i like to think it is more total body centric

I will tell you that my whole body is drained after it
I also have to mention that my gym has a abandoned hallway that is alittle over 100m's so it makes these type of workouts feasible

I really like this workout posted by Christian Thibideau in that "T-nation" article

Quote
This one was a "favorite" of one of my hockey players who played in Europe. Back in 2001, he started the summer at 195lbs and 12% body fat, and ended the summer at 192 and 6% body fat; all without any particular attention to his diet.

A1. Power snatch from hang: 3 reps using around 70-75% of your maximum.
A2. Sprint 200m: (basically 100m, turnaround, 100m back to the starting point).
A3. Power clean: 3 reps with the same weight you used for the snatches.

He started at two sets, and by the end of summer was able to do 14. No, I'm not kidding; but he was also the freakiest overall athlete I've ever worked with. Besides him, the most anyone ever did was 8, with three minutes between sets.

If you're training indoors and can't do sprints, do burpees (15 reps) or sprint stair climbing (30 seconds).

I agree it's body centric.  But, it looks like there's three direct movements that fry the delts, then the snatches which do too.

I'm not saying it's bad at all.  For me, though, it would be tough on the shoulders.

it will burn your shoulders
however, i think that your legs and ass will be burning more so the lactic acid build up in that area will counteract any lactic acid build up in your shoulder girdle, if that is any constellation

also, the "S.O.D" workout is still a work in progress on my end so i might have to space things out alittle differently

needless to say, i would avoid my workout for anyone with shoulder issues

I also want to add Jim Wendler's entry into that article as i think it will shed some light for the guys who walk on a treadmill (on a incline) for 60 minutes to get ripped*

* btw, i realize "getting ripped" has more to do with diet than it does cardio so no need to "educate me"

Are people really this confused? Fat loss doesn't have to be complicated. Push something heavy: a Prowler, a truck, a shopping cart loaded with a couple of your fat fucking friends, it doesn't matter. Run up hills or stadium stairs. Do this four to seven days a week. Lift four days/week.

Eat less, type less, and train like you have a fight. Repeat.

I fail to see any correlation between lactic acid buildup and the celestial sphere.

Mine are minor, but I'm still going to try your workout.  Looks fun.

I usually do intervals on the track on a Thursday, but it was pissing down this morning so I did the following:

500m sprint on the treadmil (gradient of 2.5%) followed by a km sprint on the stationary bike. this was repeated until I had ran 5km and rode 10km. My rest period was walking between equipment.

let me know how it works

i'm definately gonna do that workout that Thibideau wrote out

again, i have to point out that i have the luxury of having a HUGE, clear Hallway in my gym that makes it very easy for me to go from doing a lifting movement and, then, go sprint for distance (without having to use a treadmill)

superset these with 2 minutes wait in between. go through the cycle three times.

20 squats (all the way down, ass to the grass)
20 deadlifts (squeeze your lats at the top and pull it back a little farther than all the way up)
20 bench press
20 pulldowns/pullups
100 yard sprint as fast as possible

Tomorrows workout is usually:

Mini warm up circuit of 10 pull ups/ 25 body weight squats/ 20 press ups.
This is repeated 5 times trying to keep rest time between circuits to a minimum.

4 x 12 of the renegade row/burpee/dumbell press I tried to explain to JNM on a previous thread.
Rest time again try to keep to a minimum.

3 x 12 (both arms) dumbbell clean and press.
Rest time kept to minimum.

Step ups on to a box/bench. 75 step ups with a plate in both hands, drop one plate and then another 75  and then 75 with no weight. These are done as fast as possible and repeated three times. rest is usually 60 secs after no weight step ups.

Have you read any of his books? A friend of mine has a couple of them and devised a routine based on his principles. I did the routine with him for a few months last year, VERY intense.

i havent read his books but i've read alot of his articles and the guy knows his stuff

I love this article in particular (again, on the subject of conditioning/fat burning)- it is a MUST READ for anyone serious about getting into shape

He definitely knows his shit. The routine my friend created from his book was geared for cutting up, he was competing shortly after.

BONUS WORKOUT:

the "Kristy" workout (this workout is a true JNN original and if anyone is seen doing it they stole it from me)

for this workout, a speed harness and speed bands are needed in addition to a kettlebell and a olympic barbell (loaded with appropriate weight.  You also need somewhere between, i'd say, 10 meters.

the set up:
1) anchor your speed band onto a fixed point and hook your speed harness into the band.  Make sure it is secure.
2) place a kettlebell 10 meters from the fixed point.  If you don't have a kettlebell, that's fine- just find something you can put on the floor and and touch with your hand
3)load your olympic bar (with the weight you would use to do, say, 10-12 power snatchs) and place it a couple of feet next to the fixed point (either to the left or right)

now with everything is setup, put on the harness and just do a test walk to the kettlebell to see that you have some resistance on the way to the kettlebell.  If you don't feel that "pull" then move the kettlebell further up.
also, you want to test out how a speed harness works if you have never used one before
once that is out of the way, move back to the starting point and move laterally to the olympic bar to see if you can go to it without feeling the pull of the harness.  You want that bar to be placed where it isn't in the way of your "running path" but close enough so you can move to it after the "run".  This will all make sense when I explain the workout

the workout:

okay

from the starting point, you are going to run to the kettlebell, touch it and tread back wards back to the starting point
as soon as you make it back to the starting point, move laterally to the barbell and perform 1 Power Snatch
after the power snatch, run (again) to the kettlebell, touch it and tread back wards back to the starting point
as soon as you make it back to the starting point, move laterally to the barbell and perform 2 Power Snatchs
long story short, you are gonna repeat this pattern until you ladder up to 10 Power Snatchs
once you hit 10 Power Snatchs, you repeat the pattern except you Ladder the Snatchs Down (i.e 9,8,7 etc) until you hit 1 snatch

voila

ideally, you want to do this as fluid as possible but , realistically, you can take breaks whenever you need be

45m of cardio on an empty stomach with some sort of stimulant or fat burner+ maybe a few sips of gatorade-- 5 days in a row. If you don't lose fat your either dieting like shit or have the metabolism of a whale.

Here's the gist of our advanced strongman camp. This is done in a circuit with no longer than 30sec between exercises and no more than 2mins between rounds. We do 4 rounds.

Foam rolling

Dynamic warm up w/active stretch - 15-20min

Single exercise - Box jumps on stacked tires (46") 3 x 5

Begin circuit;

Tire fights (700lb tire)

Sledgehammer lateral swings on tire 10x's each side

Tire flips (400lbs) 10 flips

Keg walk 40yards approx 150lbs

Truck push 1 ton truck -40 yards

Backwards sled drag w/3" dia rope 260lbs 40 yards

Farmers carries 75-100lbs - 40 yards

Backwards tire toss - 5 x's

2 min rest - repeat

immediately after 4 round is complete, 1 mile run for time

Approximately 12-1400 cal burned and continues burning for about the next 24 hours.
