This occurs in many West African countries. Many don't realize the health hazards this causes  I can understand a fuller figure, many African men like their women "heavy" or thick. It has more to do with looking like you can handle some kids, and less to do with "space in his heart". And also the availability of food. The less available the more attractive bigger women are. Also women are secondary citizens in that country, physical fitness, even for the men is looked down upon.

Yeah, that's why the male? was in brackets. Women rail all the time about patriarchy and yet they buy the magazines, feed the machine and buy into all the hype and will cut a fellow chick over some perceived 'competition.' Whereas most/all guys don't give a fark about any of that nonsense.

Its funny, how women try to cut out the competition whereas men revel in it. We compete everyday. And against our co-workers, brothers, friends, other guys, for almost anything. I have never gotten this. They'll complain 'til the cows come home about how unrealistic all these pictorial/editorial expectations are for women, but yet they continue buy these mags. It's not like guys are buying these mags to secretly extend some patriarchal hegemony.

Me neither, and they do the same thing with Victoria Secret. Back in the early to mid 90's Vickies had some really nice curvy models, one's name was Frederique (sp?), then as Vickies got more mainstream, they got rid of those models and got "supermodels" like Noami Campbell, Claudia Shciffer, Tyra Banks, etc. I remember female co-workers complaining about this, that they were "unrealistic representations of women", yet they still bought the items and and subscribe to the catalog.

Also I noticed that women would complain if a man had the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, yet the same swimsuit would be in the Victoria's Secret catalog...same damn thing and presented in the same damn manor, one is no different than the other.

This is hardly a gender-specific phenomenon, (which granted...you didn't say that it was outright, but you seem to imply such). All people are pushed to conform by various aspects of culture, and crass consumerism. Just as much for men...if we don't have a six pack, an overflowing bank account, a ten inch penis, and all the newest toys and gadgets, then we too fail on all levels.

Of course being Getbiggers we only understand this in theory, and would never know what such a fate is like first hand!
