I believe the are other life forms out there somewhere that predate us (homo sapiens) and our earth, they could live in other universeses or other parts of our universe... and for all we know they are inter-dimensional beings, and don't exist only in the 3 dimensions we're aware of...string theory talks a lot about things such as multiverses and multiple dimensions...

We know for certain that the laws of physics that bind us to this earth do not apply equally outside of our planet's atmosphere, there are much heavier elements present on other planets and around the universe, elements we can't even yet begin to conceive.
