« on: January 26, 2010, 09:21:11 PM »
what a damn travest this movie was gay as hell, tried to give it time but after a few days i decided it was just aweful, all this hype about 'breakthrough/best effects evar!!!' bs was just that, honestly i dont know how it was any more impressive than the lord of the rings movies or hell even the fucking 2001 star wars remakes...the characters 'moved' real but still LOOKED like digital cartoons....it was weak as hell all the shitty acting by that douchebag actor who sucks, lame in every concieveable way...just goes to show that nowadays all it takes to make a sucessful movie is Hype...hype it up enough and it will turn a profit no matter how mediocre the actual movie is.

Who cares. A bunch of sheeple putting on cheap "3D" glasses to watch a cheesy movie about blue people flying around in the air.  ::) I'll catch this around 2014 on cable or dvd.

While the story was generic pap and the acting standard action fair, I dont see how anyone can say the last 30 minutes wasnt the best visuals they had ever seen in a movie, that alone was worth the price of admission.

disheartening coming from you db, honestly there was NOTHING mindblowing about this movie, ive been a james cameron fan for years he basically personally created the Terminator movies/story/directing/franchise, aliens forgot which, other films which my drunk brain doesnt instantly recall, titanic previous all time wrecord holder, in any case when hes on this guy is top notch, but fuckin AVATAR was besides its 'cutting edge' (oh brother  ::)" graphics was a mediocre generic film with shitty acting, story plot and script.

The only thing hyped to be groundbreaking was the optical 3D effects which required the glasses. There is nothing that stands out as technologically groundbreaking outside of that.

When watching Avatar the audience has to accept the fact that the blue creatures are SUPPOSED to be real. In reality, they look like 70% real CG characters.

Avatar was still better than Terminator 2 in that department...

My thoughts exactly. Just like everything else, hype is all that matters. While it had some nice visuals, the storyline was shit. But guess what, they advertised the shit out of it, and from there, the ball just rolled. Gotta love it. No originality.

Theses are the same folks who camp out to see movies, or to get the latest silly telephone. The same folks who get tattoos as a way to stand out, and get attention. All self absorbed....selfish, drones. They do thing, cause everyone else is.

The Irony.

Thank you. I just had this discussion the other day. I'm sorry, but this (Avatar) was a glorified Sci Fi Network movie. Seriously. And that's not even getting into the poor storyline, which we have seen before a dozen times. It was Dances with wolves w?blue people.  ::)

I'm thinking 300 had better visuals. The entire movie was beautiful to watch.

The story was weak, in general, combined with a couple very weak spots.  The movie on the whole was yet another attempt by hollywood to improve the visuals while doing nothing in regards to what actually makes someone leave a movie saying, 'damn, that was good.'

I agree. i saw it just for the sake of it. Never saw "Titanic" and people are still busting my balls about it. The visuals just gives you the impression that Cameron is once of those crazy perfectionnists who just scrolled every single image to try and make it perfect. Which results in a very artificial movie. But it's a movie, it's made to be seen on a big screen in a theater not a home. In that sense, it's ambitious beyond the simple visual effects. But it's just not a good movie that's all.

Well I didn't pay to watch it, if I had parted with money maybe i would have been more critical. To me knowing the most of the last 30 mins was done by someones imagination and created out of thin air on workstations is fascinating to me.That being said I wouldn't rush to watch it again, I find blockbusters usually only need one watch. The sad thing is all the best movies of this year nobody has even heard about, films like The prophet, The Road,Up in the air, Moon etc either get limited release or zero advertising.Go through the top films of all time and most were not recognised on cinematic release.Shawshank bombed at the box office because of the name and bad advertising.Goodfellas also relied on word of mouth after its cinematic release. To be able to consistently pick good films to watch relies on taking a deeper interest in Movies, not just relying on TV Commercials, internet advertising and what peoples dumb sheep workmates are raving about.

What Avatar made me realise for the first time is in 20 years or so is that there wont be any need to pay 20 million for an actor, just render them on a computer and get someone to do the voice work, but by then they will probably be able to emulate human speech down to a tee too.

Movie is crap. Typical american cliche crap, guy learns to walk and talk like the natives and saves them from a bad oppressor. Original.

Unimaginable Poodle Poop!

The star wars effects were incredible!

The chicks without dicks I sat next to in the cinema were incredible!

Even the fXcking hostesses serving nacho's were hot!

I finally watched the movie this past weekend.  I fell asleep.
Not impressed. Visually of course, the story was average at best.
