Pelosi - Freeze Spending to Blackwater, Haliburton etc

Toward the end of her weekly press conference on Capitol Hill today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) broke ranks with President Obama and reiterated her call for the president's proposed spending freeze to include the Defense budget as well.

She charged that much of the wasteful spending in the U.S. budget is directly related to the Pentagon.

"I support taking care of our veterans," she said (based on a rough transcript of her quotes), "but not entitlement programs for military contractors. ... We must not ignore the Pentagon completely."

Pelosi made the point that a spending freeze must come regarding military contractors. This has been a liberal cause because of the amount of money charged to Uncle Sam by companies like Blackwater and Halliburton. Pelosi then gave examples, quoting Reagan administration officials talking about how the Pentagon's budget is routinely bloated.



Good call if this is true.  Outside companies have no business getting tax payer defense money at a time like this.  Of course somehow not paying haliburton millions will not 'keep us safe' but that is the republican mantra these days.

Unbelievable.   This communist POFS doubles spending in the first years and then wants us to believe he is actually doing spomething by allegedly freezing spending in a few agencies is at best a hoax.

They will 240.  They'll say it's a danger to national security and cheney will come out (cause we all know halliburton is his meal ticket these days) and slam the admin for it.  It's all the same from the cry baby repubs these days.  So divisive with little to no ideas of their own.  Hoping Obama fails so they can take power rather than trying to enact policies to get elected on merit rather than by default.

I dont know.Why?National guard is good for home.I dont want them fighting wars.The army IS a professional military unit,they are no different then blackwater.I want professionals fighting wars.Its a serious buisiness.

It is a serious business but blackwater is not the US Army.  Wouldn't you rather those funds go to increasing the armies size and strength rather than a companies?

Im not sure the army can increase that much now.I wonder if peoples appetite to go across the globe to fight a war will allow the military to expand much.The blackwater guys love fighting.
