Prophet Mohammed really DID marry a 9 year old girl.

Hey, I always thought everyone was just being over the top when they said that Mohammed married a 9 year old girl. I figured that they got it from some crazy source and ran with it.

But then I read an article today that said this...

In January, senior cleric Sheikh Abdullah al-Manie told Okaz that the Prophet Mohammed's marriage to a nine-year-old girl some 14 centuries ago cannot be used to justify child marriages today.

Manie, a member of the Council of Senior Ulema (scholars), said that circumstances are different today from when the Prophet Mohammed married young Aisha.


This is straight from a Saudi cleric, not someone trying to score points against Islam.
