Two of my faves right there, but don't forget marvin gaye (arguably the greatest singer of all time) and the supremely talented singer businessman, songwriter sam cooke.

And then there is another amazing talent who died far too young, jackie wilson.

these rappers don't hold a candle to these guys when it comes to talent or musical abilities.

Bear in mind that The Pistols were the equivalent of a packaged Disney group in the 70s. Sabbath, however, was amazing.

amazing.

That's just one of the top twenty songs ever made.
It's a shame because I like a lot of blues and Hendrix etc.., nowadays if I see a black guy on MTV I know I'm gonna hate it. Sometimes I watch it if they've got chicks doing that ass shaking thang but all that materialistic "unga bunga, look at my car, gun and money" fuck that ape nonsense.

I haven't looked hard enough to ID the other people yet, but that's Ray 'Ghostbusters' Parker Jr. on guitar. :)

There are tons of black artist out there besides "rappers"

Try to listen to Kenny Lattimore, Kem, or maxwell as examples if you are into true R&B soul.

If you are going by MTV and what is played on the radio, that's all media market driven, and remember ....blacks are a minority % wise so the majority % listening and buying this "hipCRAP" is not black.

I listen to true R&B which is rarely played on the airwaves if at all. Have to dig to find it though, but they are out there.

The new stuff now is for that new generation basically. Let them have it. LOL

RnB sounds too much like pakistani or arabic music...yanno when they extend out a word and get real throaty with their words...that came from arabic music...soo meh...

i love lenny kravitz...but not many such black mucisians left....black people seem to be WAY TOO focused about staying with "black" music...well...guess what...they wont find a main stream audience that way...

go to pakistan and noone knows who pdiddy is...but everyone knows coldplay or aerosmith or U2

You'll also notice in the Al Green & Stevie Wonder videos that there are people playing real instruments too. Not any synthesized computer generated shit!!! The groove is strong, like a drum machine, but it's the real machine and his talent for keeping time...not using a "beat bug" or metronome.

Back then, those guys were cutting edge, yet still pretty much accepted by all.

There are melodies, groove, riffs that catch your ear/hook points, great arrangements and an importance placed on setting a mood. Each one of their songs sounded different. No cookie cutter bullshit. There were artists that did that, because they were one-hit-wonders and had less talent, but today the cookie cutter stuff is applied to nearly everyone.
