SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says Florida is "for the old people" and that no one wants to take a vacation in Iowa.

The Republican governor on Tuesday told a Silicon Valley conference on infrastructure that in comparison, his state has a reputation as a destination.

"No matter where you go in the world, people still want to come to California," Schwarzenegger said. "There's no one screaming like, 'I can't wait to get to Iowa.' That I can guarantee you. They want to come here to California."..........

All true.  Why is this news?

Remember the thread on the "Best place to live in the US.. opinions please"?  Two of them were in California: Susalito and Santa Barbara.  None were in Iowa.

I drove through Iowa once and stopped at a few places.  Everyone I interacted with was unbelievably friendly and relaxed, so much so that I actually intended to go back someday and see if life is really like that there every day.

when you get past miami and mickey mouse....what else is in FL?  arnold could be on to something.  i passed on a job there cause it was damn near in an old folks village.

The winter months in FL are really bad, all the snowbirds come down and not only do they clog the roads by driving ridiculously slow because they have no where to go and nothing to do, but they drive like shit. I want to kill them all.

I enjoyed living in Florida. I lived right outside of Orlando and found there was always something going on with an hour driving distance at any time of the year.

too bad that stretch of beach you are showing is one of the last areas that have not been crowded out by McMansions and tacky shops. As far as Southern California goes, aside from state parks there is no more land left near the beach, one of the last parcels in Dana Point was sold to developers. Laguna Beach and others have been ruined by over development.  I guess what people cannot remember they cannot miss. But at one time it was beautiful.

The beaches in Cali suck compared to FLA. White sand beaches and clear water. Might have hurricanes, but I love it .
