So is bodybuilding a gay sport?
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:47:21 PM »
And if it is why do we want to do anything with it including weightlifting and entering contest if we're straight? Just curious?

we're all extremely safe with our sexuality and we're not afraid to admire chemically engineered men in thongs, while wearing Pam Spray and pro tan, who eat rice and chicken boobs every 3 hours, after training in purple and yellow striped tight pants and no shirt. cept some homophobic getbiggers who will one day come out of their large stileto filled walk in closets

Bodybuilding itself and as a contest isn't gay.

Some of the characters participating might be gay, but other than that i'd like to think not.

different athletes has different skill sets

sprinters are fast but not so good at long distances

bodybuilders sacrifice cardio for size, muscle, and power (kind of like a lineman in the NFL)

competition = sport

training to compete in a show means that the training = part of the sport

you train to keep your strong points and improve on your weak points while the people in your weight class do the same.

weekened warriors or people that go to the gym with their protein drinks 3 times a week and quarter squat in the smith, shadow box, talk on a cell then do a session of tanning... those are the people that you see that call themselves bbr's, then yes thats not a sport.

anyone that competes or any pro, then its a sport.

as far as "gays" that's in everything & everywhere.  most women are married to gay guys, that's why they wind up cheating or getting divorced or live the rest of their days unhappy and unfulfilled because they stayed with a wuusy and never got to be with a real man. common american story.

If what makes bodybuilding a "sport" is competition, then do you consider a beauty pagaent a "sport?"  They compete in the exact same way as bodybuilders, just the criteria is different.

What about powerlifting and Olympic lifting? Those sports are all about lifting heavy "shit".
You say a sport needs to have athletic and physical activity. What about car and motorcycle racing? Nascar? F1?
Bodybuilders train by the way, that is physiqual activity.

As Lion666 said, sport is about competition.

By that sorry definition, you could call sales a "sport" as there is a huge amount of competition between companies, etc...

The day I seen "Stuttering John" from the Howard Stern Show beat Ronnie Coleman in a shuttle sprint race was the day I realized that bodybuilders should not be referred to as athletes.

its a sport because:

a) you have to physically train at a very high level in order to compete
b) it still requires some athletic effort, posing for hours on stage when dehydrated is exhausting
c) hitting proper poses and perfecting your posing is not much different than, say, properly throwing a football.

example: the ufc scores fighters based on good punches, aggression, octagon control
the IFBB scores bodybuiders on good posing, stage presence, and a well executed posing routine

olympic divers are scored based on execution and bodybuilding is no different
rather than executing a diver into water you're executing a streneous muscule pose onstage

its somewhat different but the general principal of the matter still applies

Point A might have a dash of truth to it.

Points b and c are just ridiculous but then again look who is making the statement.

a) Arguable, as some of the top level guys don't train much harder than other gym goers.
b) So does a beauty pagaent.
c) You are on crack if you think bodybuilding posing is remotely close to throwing a football at a high level.

A huge percentage of bodybuilding competitors are either washed-up jocks, or never were's.  Vast majority being the latter.  Tend to have very few who are/were great athletes.

Actually you have a good point, I never saw it from that perspective.
If there is anything that separated bodybuilding from beauty pageant contests or sales is the physiqual training that bodybuilders do.
