HAZ, Mike Torchia. Another good friend from many years back whom I have lost contact with due to change of orders and overseas excursions. I'll do my best to contact Mike and get him to tell some of his old time stories to this GetBig crowd.

he was a top light weight amatuer when i was in high school. not a big guy but looked great when he nailed it. did he win his class in the nationals once? 81 maybe

I honestly can't recall any of Mike's BB accomplishments back then, Haz. All I can recall is that he was nationally known within the competitive BB world, trained relatively hard, was a genuinely good guy, and had some kind of business venture planned or underway with a friend of mine.

That was so long ago that I can't even recall the years it all occured in. I'm terrible at recalling dates.

I'm gonna try to locate Mike for a refresher course because a lot of interesting shit was going on back then.

Seems the key to having a good physique is a low post count, or lack of time on Getbig. I think I will try that method.

Can you both provide some contest history?

1st show was the NPC Amateur Grand Prix in CA where I placed 2nd in the teen division.
I then competed in a handful of shows over a 2 1/2 year span including the NPC Mr. Huntington Beach (1st light heavyweight & overall) and 5th in the NPC LA. I never did a national show.

I doubt I could have been a pro. For sure not a successful one. I didn't respond well to gear and had a hard time putting on the required size. And, as most here know, I don't think much of pro body building. It's unhealthy, requires you to break the law and you make no money $:-\$

How many GetBiggers have turned pro in the last 5 years? There's your answer.

My guess is maybe two turn pro/year. Really wouldn't want to get into the whole natural vs. juicer thing but considering GetBig has 10Kish members, maybe 10% of them actually work out, of that 10% maybe 30% post pics. Of the 30% who post pics, 95% should not so it's easy to guess around .004% of GetBiggers could turn pro and make serious money doing G4P.

I appreciate all of the encouraging words, I truly do. This "sport"(I know some of your opinions on this topic) is not always for the weak-minded. I will compete this year, just not sure if it will be in the spring or the fall.

You're dead wrong. Unless you belong in the 1 - 2 % of the population that has really lousy genetics (like Edgar Fletcher or Matt Mendenhall), you can turn pro like 99% of the rest of us (most of whom CHOOSE not to become pro) - just make sure your drug intake is at the level of a pro's.

Most people are wasting money on drugs.
