I could care less if people want to be overweight. I don't mind if they want to ruin themselves.

What I do care about, is when you have to pay an extra $2-3 on every meal, a health tax because they're overweight and doing nothing to stop themselves from going further down the drain.

There are millions of them so they have a movement just like blacks, mexicans and gays.  Fat is now a category and they love free pizza at lunch from my work.

The Getbig unwashed Flotsam really are unthinking, biased, intolerant and ignorant sods. Most forget they didn't look great when they started training. Those who have been able to significantly alter body composition should know it is not an easy process. Those who do not choose the bodybuilding lifestyle are not inferior because they don't lift weights. In this world there are fat people, thin people and a few muscular people. All are acceptable and should be tolerated. That is size acceptance.

Those who wish to debate with fat people can go to Dimensions magazine and see how smart and informed you are. Good luck. I am confident that hapless bodybuilders who venture there will be disposed of as stereotypical muscleheads.

here is the thing Vince, America is over run with fat people. And have you ever seen a fat 90 yr old? I don't think they exist. We have historic levels of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, ED among other ailments, all due to being overwieght. Cars have to be redesigned, transportation provided for (skooters) all because mofos can't walk to in store. Clothes become bigger, etc. I'm all for people being respected, but when there is something that you can change by being mor active and more self motivated and you don't do it. It's sad.

And this is not about liking "thick" women nor making fun of fat people, because I'm not like that. Corporations, drug companies, the fitness industry, and the food industry all make a killing off of fat people killing themselves. And they want to be excepted for destryoing themselves? Sorry, those people at dimensions are delusional "flotsam"

missed the point vince...i was commenting on the fact that just about every supposed ''group'' has a movement...so what are we supposed to do now...break people down to race, religion, ethnic background and either fat/skinny/big boned...

Any group can have a movement. There is no movement for musclemen because the subculture is so small.

The fat acceptance groups were originally started by men who fancied large, fat women. There are places where fat people can assemble on line to discuss issues and socialize. There is also some activating re being fat and they consider this important. What bodybuilders should understand is obesity is not a simple phenomenon to understand. There are lots of things involved and those who are aware of the problems, etc., do not level blame at all fat people. The idea that reversing obesity is simply a matter of will power and motivation is misguided. There are many causes of obesity and really fat people might have several factors that lead to their being so big. Reversing obesity is a challenge as any gym owner will tell you. These people seldom present at gyms because they don't feel comfortable being among all those fit looking people and who can blame them?

In Western countries physical attraction is still paramount when it comes to women. Women are strongly motivated to care about their appearance. They would not be obese if they could help it. Even dieting can lead to obesity if you have the genes for easily storing excess energy. Research shows that when fat people diet they remain on a starvation mode long after the diet has finished. During such times the lost weight and more can be regained. Thin people when bulking up will lose that size when they go off a bulking diet. In other words, fat people will have a hard time to avoid being fat and fatter whereas thin people will have a hard time gaining any weight and keeping it on.

I agree that we seldom see old, obese people. Anyone who is carrying considerable weight will have joint problems. Bodybuilding can help fat people but they won't feel inclined to hang around gyms much.

Fat people are great for the healthcare business. You also learn tons from their cases when heart, kidney, and other organs start to fail. It's almost like there's an entire train wreck contained in one person!!

In the end people will get so fat that the new standard of 'thin' will be the old version's definition of 'fat'.

Yes!!

Those cases are great learning tools but the patients can be a little too demanding and occasionally angry. I think some of the anger comes from finally losing control over their lives due to years of self-abuse. As long as you don't let shit get personal and view these people as learning opportunities it's cool.

If the statistics are correct then it follows that your chances are better than 2/3 that your wife will be overweight or obese. You have a 1 in 3 chance she will eventually be obese.

No need to get nasty and offensive about fat people because your parents and family and friends will have plenty of fat people, too.

You all have about 2 chances out of 3 that you will eventually be overweight. That is the reality so why all the abject feelings against fat people? Most here fear obesity more than anything else.
