I've never heard that, but not saying it's not true. I do know that hitting a person just hard enough (or harder) around the chin that makes their head twist rapidly causes the brain to hit the inner walls of the head and that leads to KO's and fuking up your equilibrium. A slap can do that  also

People definitely underestimate the power of a good hard slap in the right place. Like you say it can send your equilibrium to shit, and as a bonus you don't have to worry about breaking your knuckles on some guys face.
