Male Gymnasts.
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:22:10 PM »
In keeping with the spirit of the Olympics, do you think male gymnasts  have the genetics to turn pro? Granted, I am sure none of them would want to (can't blame them). Just a hypothetical question.

Functional muscle.

You mean, being too big to wipe your own ass isn't considered functional muscle? :o

That's a problem we would all love to have....

On a side note, the first pic is ridiculous if it's not photo shopped.

I thought shopped at first, but some gymnasts are pretty damn built.

I'm no schmoe but could that bicep pose just like that not win or place a person high in a lightweight or middleweight contest?? Especially considering the kind of rigorous AAS testing these Olympians undergo? I just don't see how a gymnast is THAT developed naturally...

I understand a little bit of cuts, but damn.

Functional muscle.

Built to move their own bodyweight, not so much external loads.

You see some great upper body development on them. Pity they're the height and weight of a ten year old boy.

Myth. Anyone that can do crucifix's, pommel, etc. is as strong as hell whatever they are doing.

YES!  They're all 5'5.
Yah. Sorry, bro. That's what I meant. All the really good guys I ran across were all about that height and 145-155lbs. And they were amazing. I was just a hacker who had a few good moves but no real gym sense.* When I was on the team the really good guys came from York because their coach was a former Japanese Olympic competitor. Ours was a mining engineer, so lotsa beer appreciation  ;D

* i do have my varsity letter somewhere. maybe my mum has it.

I pretty much just liked jumping on the tramampoline.  More of a swimmer through high school.  Still got the physique to prove it.

A lot of them may not have the genetic potential to get really big legs.  At that level, their genetic potential might be so specific that their tendency to have small legs might be what helps them maneuver their bodies so well.

Well, it's really form meets function. The only event that needs legs is the vault, and that's just for the run-up. The rest of the events the legs are just ballast.

Like amateur and pro bbers are tall. The average height is probably 5'6. A lot of gymnasts are dexter and branch's height.
