State Department lifts ban on exports of night-vision goggles
« on: February 24, 2010, 11:52:45 AM »
Another in a long line of great idea's by they State Dept ::)

By Nicholas Kralev and Bill Gertz THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The State Department has lifted a ban on exports of night-vision equipment that was imposed in 2007 on a U.S. company caught selling sensitive defense articles to China and other countries without a license.

Meanwhile, two key U.S. senators on Tuesday wrote to Gen. James L. Jones, the White House national security adviser, warning that the Obama administration's plan to loosen controls on exports of sensitive goods and technology could undermine national security.

Is this how obama plans on doubling exports in 5 years?

Maybe we sell these to Iran, the Taliban, NK, and the Tamil tigers.

Why do you think the ban was put in, in the first place? Maybe because the other guys didn't have the technology, and some dumbass company was selling it without proper licensing. Of course you would have to read the article to know that.

You can buy nightvision goggles in any electronics store in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Russia or the Middle East... and have been able to do so since the mid-nineties.

So what are you Palin-voters upset about now...?

Seriously, sometimes I cringe at the chronic debilitating level of ignorance on this board.

I was kidding.  I'm not complaining about this, its probably some makers of these things giving a few bribes and looking to expand their market share overseas since business sucks here.

I'm feeling cynical lately, so that was my first thought.   ;D  ;D

So anything you misunderstand you interpret as a failing of the Obama administration... then if someone calls you on it, you simply cave in and retract your rantings...?

How could I infer anything when you aren't even sure what you implied.

Maybe just go back to being horrified that your government lifted a trade restriction fifteen years too late, that was ineffectual to begin with.

Read your posts fool.  Are you drinking too much again?  You said i claimed this was an obama failure, which I didnt.  I asked a question and that was it.

So you inferred from my question that I was trying to make a statement, which I was not.

again, read the thread again and show me where I claimed this was an obama failure?

So you think you can just go into one of these shops and buy military grade equipment? The only ignorance on this board is your arrogant ass.

Yes you can... it might be a couple of years behind the cutting edge stuff, but if that's a problem for you then just don't buy American equipment. Only the American companies are prohibited from selling military grade equipment to consumers.

Let me explain, any private citizen here in Europe can buy GenIII, GenIV, and GenV nightvision equipment.... GenV was military grade only in the US as recently as 2007 or so.

But if all this shopping around bothers you, you can buy custom parts that far exceed the technical performance of anything the US military issues to it's grunts.

It's just a little pricey.

Yeah......go ahead and buy it in mass quantities then. The Chinese aren't going to buy 10 custom NVG's they want 10 million sets. They want maintanience, they want manuels...batteries...sp are parts. Our NVG's are very good...the mass produced stuff many of our enemies use is old Soviet junk...better to keep them that way for as long as possible.
