Miguel Torrez got FOOKED up!  I'm thinking he's on suicide watch right now.

The Bolwes/Cruz fight was a disappointment.  Cruz was impressive though.  Great feints, leg movement and speed.  Funy to watch him fight though.  It's like a little midget on crack...lol.

What about that CRAZY standing guillotine from Scott Jorgensen!  He had the dude's legs dangling and after he woke up he was spasming on the floor...lol!

It looks like Benavides is getting another crack at Cruz.  He should at least have to win another fight, Scotty Jorgensen has been on a tear and If Damacio Page beats Banuelos he should be up there too.  Cruz's footwork owns Benavides all day, I don't wanna see that fight again so soon (but I do want to see it if he wins at least one more time).  Decent fights, I like WEC, Ive been to 2 myself and plan on going again real soon.

I agree with you.  I'm not interested in seeing Benavides/Cruz II this soon.  This division is getting stacked fast.  He should have to go though one more.  I am looking forward to seeing Miguel vs. Bowles II.  Since both lost it seems like a good matchup.  Speaking of Miguel, WTF kind of game plan was that against Benavides ???  He basically handed him the win....

He said he wanted to be less like Wanderlei Silva and more like Lyoto Machida, the only problem is he's not Lyoto Machida.  Dominic Cruz has the perfect style for beating Benavides, Miguel should have looked at that instead of Lyoto.  Dominic has badass footwork/boxing/headmovement and decent wrestling, that's the perfect nullifyer for Josephs wrestling and unorthodox in/out potshots and wrestling ability.  Miguel needs to work on that aspect of his game, he has relied on his BJJ for so long he was never really worried about his takedown defense.  Him and Bowles sounds like a logical next step for the both of them.

This past weekend's WEC 47 event on Versus scored a 0.46 household rating and 373,000 viewers, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed.

The ratings were down sharply – 42 percent in all – compared to World Extreme Cagefighting's prior show, WEC 46 (640,000 viewers), which took place in January and benefited from proven draw Urijah Faber and a main-event title-unification bout between Benson Henderson and Jamie Varner.

WEC 45, which took place this past December, drew 330,000 viewers.

WEC 47 took place March 6 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and featured a bantamweight title fight between ex-champ Brian Bowles and new title-holder Dominick Cruz. Joseph Benavidez beat former champ Miguel Torres in the co-headliner, and Jens Pulver likely fought for the final time with his submission loss to Javier Vazquez.

It was a solid night of fights to mark the WEC's Ohio debut, and the WEC 47 attendance (8,345) was the fifth-largest in WEC history.

WEC events often fluctuate wildly with their audience sizes. However, this latest broadcast had the second-lowest viewership since its record-breaking WEC 34 event (1.54 million viewers) in June 2008, when Faber met Pulver for the first time. Versus began carrying WEC events in June 2007 with WEC 28, which drew 416,000 viewers.

Partially to blame for the recent ratings drip? DirecTV's August 2009 decision to drop Versus from its lineup after a dispute over carrier feeds/viewer interest. A resolution has been rumored to be near for the past month, but as of today, DirecTV's 18 million subscribers are still without Versus.

Recent WEC broadcasts as compiled by MMAjunkie.com:

•WEC 47 (Bowles vs. Cruz): 373,000 viewers
•WEC 46 (Varner vs. Henderson): 640,000
•WEC 45 (Cerrone vs. Ratciff): 330,000
•WEC 44 (Brown vs. Aldo): 414,000
•WEC 43 (Cerrone vs. Henderson): 419,000 (first event after loss of DirecTV viewers)
•WEC 42 (Torres vs. Bowles): 670,000
•WEC 41 (Brown vs. Faber II): 1,300,000
•WEC 40 (Torres vs. Mizugaki): n/a
•WEC 39 (Brown vs. Garcia): 531,000
•WEC 38 (Varner vs. Cerrone): 702,000
•WEC 37 (Torres vs. Tapia): 671,000
•WEC 36 (Faber vs. Brown): 497,000
•WEC 35 (Condit vs. Miura): 423,000
•WEC 34 (Faber vs. Pulver): 1,540,000
The WEC makes its pay-per-vew debut in its next event with WEC 48. Much of the organization's future and its upcoming broadcast plans hinge on the $49.99 offering.

The sad part about this decline in viewers was that this card/event was great. One of the better MMA events I have seen in a while.
WEC needs to really up their marketing of fighters to more then the hardcore MMA fan. Most people have no idea who these guys are and don't visit many MMA websites. How are they to even know the fight is on.

They need to have more prefight shows or something to show the average MMA fan what these guys are all about. There are many hungry, bad ass fighters in the WEC. The WEC is about more than Uriajh.

I will call it now...their next PPV is going to flop.

I'm not so sure.  I think Faber is a household name among hardcore and casual fans.  And it is a very stacked card.  It should do as well as a good UFC PPV.  I think the reason why we are seeing some declines is that there is an over saturation of MMA events right now.  3-4 big events this month alone!  I think all orgs would be better off doing 8-10 well staked events per year...

so let me get this straight...you want all the fighters to fight in the same org(UFC)...but you want to put on less shows....

I don't mind there being multiple orgs, as long as there is one dominant org that has all the best fighters.  That way we have undisputed belt holders.  But, even with less shows, you can still have ample fighting opportunity if they are bigger and better stacked cards.  I'd rather see 10 shows per year, stacked from top to bottom, than 24 diluted ones...

That is true...over saturation does play a role. Urijah is a household name, but I bet 9 out of 10 casual or intermediate  MMA fans know very little about Aldo. And this is a title fight. What kind of 'story' does this fight have to the casual fan. If a fight doesn't have a 'story' behind it to the fans, they really don't care to watch. Let alone drop $50 on it.

Besides Urijah, most casual fans know the WEC for Jens and Brown....and Brown is only known as the guy that stopped Urijah's backfist and fought with Urijah when Urijah had two broken hands for five rounds.

All I am saying is that the WEC needs to present and build up their fighters better. Almost got to force it down their throats like the UFC does.
I know the WEC is doing a pre-fight show for this one, but IMO they need to do this for every event, plus something like the UFC does with TUF on Versus. Let's face it, Versus is not the most watched Channel around. Got to remind casual MMA fans that Versus is a channel on TV. I know I hardly watch it unless there is a WEC event on. Kind of like Spike as well. I never really payed too much attention to Spike before the UFC.

well...If that were the case the card would have to be about 10 hours long with 20-25 fights...either that or fighters would only get to fight once per year...either way I'm thinkin Dana is glad a guy like you isn't making that call as it would also cost him tons of revenue.Which in turn would make the fighters pay go down not up causing more of them to go elsewere to get more fights and receive more money....

They actually raised the price another 5 bucks, so now it's $50.00, even more than the best UFC card (to my knowledge this is gonna be the highest price MMA PPV yet).  Faber is a pretty big name when the cards are for free, but they are taking a huge gamble and the odds aren't very good.
