Question for the Political Board Regulars
« on: March 13, 2010, 08:14:40 AM »

Do any of you occasionally purposely take a break (like for a day or more) from discussing/watching/reading about things political or is it always a part of your day w/o exception?

I always take breaks, politics is so subjective its hard to have objective discussions.

Seems like tensions run higher on this board than any other on Getbig....

Its the nature of the beast.

I guess why tensions are running so damn high, at least in my mind is as follows:

1.  Economy sucks.
2.  Economy sucks.
3.  Economy sucks.
4.  Daily Assault on the middle class by obama/reid/pelosi
5.  Daily Assault on the middle class by state govts.
6.  Pending disasters like cap & trade, amnesty for illegals, and other crap.
7.  50% of the population looking to enslave the other 50% to govt taxation/burdens, etc.

For me personally, I find it hard to focus on nonsensical garbage like Celeb Culture, NBA, Movies, etc while my house (country) is burning down.
Just last year the taxes on my building went up by 20K!  This year, they are looking to do another 35% increase!  and you weonder why I get pissed off?  They are stealing from me and I am supposed to be ok with that?

The more you know about these issues, the more you tend to get upset.  Many people dont get upset simply because they dont give a shit other than than their next hit of coke or meth.

Just remember this classic clip from one fo the best movies ever.  BTW i tried out for a part in this, no kidding.

Depends upon my level of boredom. I don't watch politics on television and only follow a few threads here.

My friends run the political gamut, in terms of perspective, so it's important to look at all sides of an equation to properly annoy them.

I dont watch TV anymore either.  Its horrible.  I stick to radio and internet mostly.

BTW - there is nothing more revolting to me than people who dont read, dont pay attention to current events, dont read history, and are obsessed with Celebrity Culture.

I have to take breaks from it every now and again especially with all the idiocy that is going on right now from both sides of the isle. The longer you concentrate on politics the more you realize that its just more of the same in a different scenario.

But politics and politicians actions plays a huge role on the financial sector in which im concentrating on now so its good to know whats going on and how it might effect things. The 2 go hand in hand a good amount of the time, the make a move in washington and it effects financial sectors even if it wasnt a financial move that was made.

I just don't find political observation on television entertaining and have grown bored with politicians always lying. I'll always challenge people to see if any actual thought went in to coming up with a belief or opinion.

Many people are total idiots incapable of intelligently defending their positions. Simple questions remind them of their stupidity so they get defensive.

I definitely take breaks.   :)  Unless you work in politics, I think you have to take breaks.  It's largely a negative, doom and gloom subject.  At least that's what it has become.
