Quite simply, bodybuilding (pro bodybuilding) wouldn't exist the way we know it.  What champs were around before Arnold?  And who came after him?...that's right, nobody with even 5% of his mainstream appeal.  Not to blow smoke, but without him, bodybuilding wouldn't have become popular.  I can say this because....it's a fuckin' opinion, lol...who the hell knows, but when you think of the 'stars' that Weider Inc. was trying to portray as their 'top guy', you're left with chirping crickets...sure, they'd have cult status, but nothing like a Schwarzenegger.

LOL! True. But sometimes I think Cali is just an ungovernable State. They should split it up. I think Arnold tried but when he got smacked down by the libs he lost his spine.

To me California is one of the biggest tragedies in American history. By all accounts it should be paradise. You have everything there. Everything. But liberals and their big government destroys everything. I had a friend who had a tanning salon and then out of the blue some inspector told him that he had the wrong door handles for the rooms. They were the lever type rather than the round ones. It cost him $500 to get government approved door knobs.

They beat down the entrepreneurs that pay all the bills and lavish government workers with perks and pensions that are killing the state. A friend of mine is a cop. Only a high school education. Five years on the job and he made almost 90 grand a year. Hell, they now start you at near 60 grand. And you can retire at 50 and collect a sweet pension for the rest of your lives.

Socialism is great for two maybe three generations but then it catches up to you and someone has to pay the bills. I worked for Raytheon Missile systems in El Segundo for 15 years and little by little they would move their operations to another State. Mostly Arizona. California is one of the worse places to run a business.

me too. i used to admire arnold.

i always thought his show was a legitly judged show, where the best man won. unlike the olympia where 'politics' was involved.

the past 2 have thrown that theory right out of the water.

arnold was an icon to bodybuilding, and could have saved it from the homos etc but instead.............

I would say that Joe Weider contributed more to bodybuilding than Arnold did, although they both contributed a lot.
